  1. USPHS

Thanks to everyone for their input, advice and stories about the USPHS and COSTEP program. Due to circumstances, I will not be entering the COSTEP program. My contingency plan was to get into pharmacy school so, I will be moving to Gainesville, FL ...
  2. USPHS

Congrats!!! All three of mine are completed as well, I just sent in my SGLI forms, direct deposit and notarized oath...hopefully soon! Keep us posted.
  3. USPHS

UPDATE: My background check was completed today (7/28) So now my board, medical and background are completed. I hope I talk to someone soon to find out what I need to do next....
  4. USPHS

I was contacted by BOP in January, went to a facility for an interview and all seemed to go well. A couple of weeks later I did my part for the background check, talked to an investigator and had several people tell me they were contacted via mail t...
  5. Just wondering what drugs a LPN can push

What are you talking about? My signature?
  6. I guess things have changed a bit since I came to the states. When I moved here in 90, all I had to do was pass the US NCLEX and I was issued a license. I guess another difference could be is that I held (and still hold) dual citizenship.
  7. If you live in the US and have passed the RN NCLEX, I wouldn't think you would be recruited as a "foreign" nurse. I would think any hospital/facility would be glad to hire you based upon the fact that you are a nurse :)
  8. Just wondering what drugs a LPN can push

Your answer lies here in the requirements of LPN IV push: http://www.tha.com/pdffiles/LPN_IV_Course_Requirements.pdf and here: http://health.state.tn.us/Downloads/g4021186.pdf
  9. Another Pay Question!

I know RNs straight out of school in Nashville making $30/hr + diff with full benefits (nice benefit package), but not everyone is cut out for working with MR/DD. I have been an LPN for 16+ years now and have been working toward my BSN. Unless I were...
  10. :yeahthat: What this person said. Kind of like a (somewhat) modern day Mayberry.
  11. PHS pay rates in Alabama

I know they lost almost all, if not all of their contracts in Tennessee (which is where their home office is.
  12. new, comparing schools in Nashville area?

Actually, my data and your data are both probably correct. Your data reflects 1997-2002 while the data I linked reflects 2003-2005. I would think that the BON data as well as the school would be accurate.
  13. new, comparing schools in Nashville area?

http://www2.state.tn.us/health/Downloads/NCLEX_Prof_Results.pdf From the Tennessee BON website. I don't know anything about TSU losing their accredidation. Their ADN program has a near 96% first time pass rate...their BSN pass rate seems to be sig...
  14. new, comparing schools in Nashville area?

In the Nashville area, Columbia Motlow and TSU have the highest first time pass rates for the NCLEX for ADN programs (92%, 97% and almost 96%). Aquinas had the second lowest first time pass rate in the state for 2005 ( MTSU hails a near 95% first ti...
  15. Patients' privacy and HIPAA vs. staff's right to know

It would not be a HIPAA violation either (sorry could not resist, no harm intended)
  16. What do you do when you see this??

I see it all the time in restaurants, rest areas, service stations, hospitals...you name it. I have lived in Nashville, Knoxville, Birmingham area and Atlanta and have seen many more who do not wash their hands than those who do. And I would be th...
  17. What do you do when you see this??

I lived in the mid-atlantic area of the US for several years and noticed that in public restrooms, most everyone washed their hands prior to leaving the restrooms. I have since moved to the south and noticed that not only is it very rare for people ...
  18. Hippa

No. I haven't seen any HIPAA violations here.
  19. correction nurses pay scale??

In some areas, CCA pays nurses much more than county or state. A lot depends on where you live.
  20. What is ur average 2 week take home pay?

The first was stated by Vincent Thomas Lombardi. The second by Albert Einstein.
  21. RN in correctional facilities any feedbacks

At the correctional facilities I have worked at, lanyards could be worn if they were velcro or some other type of "break away". I have always disagreed with this as it can still be used to strangle someone even if it "breaks away".
  22. What is ur average 2 week take home pay?

I agree with what you say here. I would not be able to be in school now if it were not for a minority scholarship. I am slavic (considered caucasian) and attending a predominately black school. If the scholarship wasn't available there would be no...
  23. RN in correctional facilities any feedbacks

  25. correction nurses pay scale??

For me easy = boring, that is why I left the hospital. I worked on a neuro floor, ICU step down and pediatrics. I am the type of nurse that *has* to stay moving at all times or I will get extremely bored real fast. I didn't find that until I started ...
