You would have to find out which courses are required by the board. Years ago when I did the EC program (Regents) in MO, the board required Ethics & A &P with a lab. Wasn't a problem for me as I'd completed a year & a half of an ADN program & already had it. I went ahead & completed the BSN (one could do that at the time) due to the fact that I had been in an accident in the middle of the semester of the ADN program locally & couldn't finish the semester. Even though I had great grades, the waiting period to get back in was a year so I went the EC route. I've never regretted it & would highly recommend EC but be careful if you want to work in CA, KS (& there may be other states- back then it was only IL that wouldn't take them but you could endorse after 2 years).

Ditto on the ANA. I am a Sigma Theta Tau member & am working on my NP. I have known diploma & ADN nurses that knew more than some BSN nurses so I can't in good faith exclude them. I do understand the need for a more "professional" standard but didn't we all have to pass the NCLEX? (that's rhetorical)

Very well said. I remember years ago, I contacted the Missouri Nurses Association regarding a nursing program & they said it was not approved, I then asked the State Board of Nursing & they said that it was. One's own BON should be their source of information.

Where did you hear that Missouri has things in the works? I just called a friend that works in the Investigations dept. at the MO Board of Nursing & he hasn't heard anything about it. He said he'd love to know where the info came from.

Excelsior used to have a program that you could send a fee & see what would apply & what you would need for completion & that fee would be appied to your enrollment. Who is the accrediting agency for your program? I doubt that it will apply either but you never know. Generally, LPN coursework does not count towards a college degree anywhere. I'm not bashing LPNs (afterall, I didn't start out as an RN either )

Like the others said, save your money. You will be paying Rue on top of the Excelsior costs. When I did Excelsior's program, they have their own bookstore. Also, you will have access to their site for students that has a special section that students sell their books and online study groups for classes.

I, too, have a BS in criminal justice & have wondered since I have rheumatoid & psoriatic arthritis if maybe a future career in forensics might be interesting? There is also quite a bit of psych & soc in criminal justice so maybe a psych nurse? If you think of any ideas, please let me know as I'm going to have to do something else myself. Best wishes!

Dansko Professional. I have both RA & psoriatic arthritis & they help me make it thru the shift. I wear different colors & even wear them on the farm.

She said she was in a diploma program which generally has more clinical time (plus for the fact that I had to make beds in my RN program, I would think it's a basic thing. As you said, it kind of burns you-sounds like sour grapes to me & you haven't entered school yet so really don't have the hands on experience to know first hand.

I respectfully disagree with you. I think there was a valid reason to go to war, Farenheit 911 has been proven to be full of lies. Our economic status is fine & it goes in cycles to a certain degree anyway - just like when the internet & tech stocks that crashed, I didn't like Clinton but it wasn't the President that made people invest in risky stocks. We were diversified so it didn't hurt us but a lot of people were wiped out. I don't consider myself blinded by President Bush, no one is going to agree with someone a 100%, but overall, he thinks as I do far more often than not. Fortunately, there were more of us that voted for him than for the disaster Kerry. At any rate, this thread is about Veteran's Benefits.

You will also be assigned to an advisor that you can email or phone to ask questions. Personally, I loved the program but it's not for someone that needs the structure of a regular classroom with schedules & due dates. You are responsible for yourself. Best wishes!

I never said my way of looking at it must be right; again, some of you are just never happy. Kevin is addressing that the benefits he was promised are still there & not cut & yet others are still argueing that they are. He's not living in a pie in the sky world that all is perfect, he's stated that there is room for improvement.

Good grief, what has President Bush done to be ashamed of? Kevin has repeatedly tried to explain things & no one wants to comprehend, they just want to keep looking at it their way & to keep complaining.

I always enjoy working with student nurses. I've always believed that I'm never thru learning & would want to be treated respectfully if I ask a question or want to watch a new procedure. Besides, the student might be more aware of something going on with a patient as where I work, they get to stay with just 2 or 3 patients as opposed to if I'm on the floor, I'll have 6 & may not have the time I'd like with each patient. When I'm in the ICUs, I only have 2 (3 in a pinch) but have never had a student nurse in that situation but I'd still be happy to have them there. I'm very glad to see that they are teaching manual BPs, as some schools don't teach that anymore. Thank you for being a nurse. There are too few of us so hang in there.

Regardless of how much "experience" J. Huffman has, I'd certainly rather have him as my nurse as opposed to Bugsbe. He has explained his thought process & reasoning instead of the attitude of if one doesn't agree, then they must be wrong or inexperienced. I am so amazed at callousness of some of the posts. Do I have a living will, yes, I do but I think one should be on the side of life if there is any doubt of the patient's wishes. Think of the people that have come of situations like this, that were aware of their surroundings but couldn't express it & the docs said they couldn't possibly be aware. When I was in nursing school in 1981, we were taught that one can not know what the patient feels as we are not that person & everyone is different. It seems things have changed & I can't say for the better.
