restorative...
started the restorative nurse position in April--have had to train myself as the last nurse walked out (now I can see why) only 2 people to question and one looks at me like she doesn't have a clue and 1 didn't have a very good reimbursement history with EDS surveys... anyone out there that knows a lot about this that would be willing to e-mail me??? My ED thinks the RAI manual is the bible and it's crap...EDS walked in my first day on the job so the good scores we got were from the nurse that walked out-- I feel as if I am flying blind--I do what I think I need to do but we all know about that hindsight---I don't want to be so used to what I am doing and it be wrong or not detailed enough for reimbursement purposes...I occasionally talk to the nurse that walked out and she knows this like the back of her hand but I can't be calling her all the time--I just really wish I had gotten proper training and someone to check behind me to make sure I was getting it---someone with more knowledge--instead I know I am going to get slammed when survey times come...I am in Indiana BTW--any help at all out there????

Nurses: Delighted or Annoyed by Nursing Students?
I think this is split 50-50.some are annoyed and some love it--I like to have them around as I enjoy teaching--I remember when I was a student I had a nurse show me tricks for a clogged peg tube--I thought I would never know anything at that time--now I am showing students my "tricks"--we have an instructor however, that sits in the beauty shop-where they set up when they are there- and the students have to go to her..I remember my instructors always being up our rear when I was a student--and as said before--I do notice some of them with "better than thou" attitudes--I really think as a student you need to be humble and realize that other nurses have frogotten more than they know right at that point!! AND you NEVER EVER stop learning no matter what degree you have--most of the time I ask the students if they have seen something--if not, I drag them along!!!:)

"What do you need Christmas off for? You don't have kids!" (rant)
the last few years I have always worked Thanks. well last year I didn't think it would be any problem so I volunteered for Thanks. so I could have Christmas off--I have worked every Christmas Eve and New years day in 7 years--no big deal---however, it was then that they decided to realize that I hadn't worked Christmas in a few years and noticed this AFTER I worked last Thnks... I got stuck working ALL of them and then was told that we were going to start switching this year..a lot of good that did me last year soooo this year I will be working Thanks. and I will be off Christmas--think I might just try to get New Years off too since I got so screwed last year!!! Oh the joys of nursing-too bad we couldn't close for the day!!!! I do agree that it doesn't matter if yuo have kids or not--my mom was a nurse since I was a baby and I didn't die b/c she wasn't there for holidays--we learned to work around them and ADAPT!!!

your very own personal crusade
yes, I prefer clothing protectors as opposed to "bibs' Briefs as opposed to "diapers". I can not stand when tooth/denture brushing is not a part of daily care. Dirty eyeglasses bug me too. I hate when I find that the CNA put someone who is totally incontinent back into bed after lunch and did not clean off the urine and you pull the sheet back to put on a duoderm and the smell knocks you out!! Here's another one, I have taken care of trach patients-with scheduled nebs. and I come back from a w/e off and none have been done!!!! or a new order for eye drops and the drops are not opened!!! Do they not realize that that is going to make everyone's job harder??? When the eye falls out or they go into resp. distress!!! It sounds like I have serious issues (and there are many more I won't list!!) but it's what we sigened on to do when we joined this field!!! Patient advocates!!! Thanks for listening folks!!!

signing up with Rue
Almost faxed the info to Rue today to start with them and then I found this website--am REALLY confused now.. After reading many posts I have decided to check out EC tomorrow.... am worried about some things though...#1 Rue seemed to be the easiest as far as payment b/c everything was included, If I go straight through EC do I have to come up with a lot more money up front for books and study guides or is all of that included in price??? #2 Rue was going to charge me 99 now and 99 a month and that's it. How does EC charge? #3 I have read alot that it is hard to get your books from Rue-that they took awhile to send you your next items, how true is that?? Please help soon!!! I am in a crunch for time here!!!!
