  1. $12 an hour?!

Where on earth do they find RNs that will work for $12/hr??? That is disgraceful!
  2. Anyone else having trouble getting work?

Nothing like sticking your head in the sand (so you can't see the nurses) This statement illustrates the reality of the situation. There really ARE nurses, but these nurses will not work for less-than-desirable wages. They will either be compensa...
  3. Black nurses VS. White nurses

    pinky vs. the brain
  4. For all of you night nurses

Ditto, but I still wouldn't change to days
  5. Will Non-BSN nurses ever be fired?

LOL! You'd have to grow some mighty long legs j/k
  6. Question from a Respiratory Therapist

I recently looked at the site. Certified Medical Assistants (CMAs)and Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs) are no longer considered as eligible for admission. Respiratory Therapists, Paramedics (EMT-P), and certain designations of former militar...
  7. Who's #1 your patient or you?

NICUs do seem to enjoy a much lower turnover rate than most other specialties (but it depends a lot on the particular unit - some just do not know how to treat people) but, in my experience, adult ICUs are different. The burnout rate tends to be muc...
  8. Worthless medical insurance

I have not seen good medical insurance through an employer yet!!! :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire You would think that being healthcare professionals, we would have the best healthcare available, well :rotfl: There is no taking care...
  9. Who's #1 your patient or you?

YES YES YES Someone else understands this!! Excellent post Agnus
  10. lpn looking to travel

Just MHO, but I would stay far, far away from any agency that did not require any level of experience. Patient safety and your license are not a priority for them - dollars are. You have to watch your own back as a traveler and keep in mind that mo...
  11. Night Shift Differential

7p-7a weekdays - $4.50 7p-7a weekends - $8.50 No way I would EVER rotate shifts (very unhealthy - its too hard to take care of others when you feel like crap all the time). I have turned down travel positions in very nice facilities that I wanted to...
  12. "I didn't know you were gay"

I'd say it probably has something to do with the fact that the profession shares its name with the act of putting an infant to breast. It seems like they could have found something better to call us.
  13. I have to be bathed by my classmate???

On a side note, other health care professionals do not do this kind of thing. You don't see RTs intubating each other. They don't have "Lap Chole Day" in med school.
  14. All Bad Nurses - Please Stand Up

Sorry, but this just doesn't hold up. Patients will request not to have a particular nurse again for the most asinine reasons, such as: The patient tried to treat a particular nurse like a slave and the nurse would not stand for it. The nurse would ...
  15. I have to be bathed by my classmate???

i have read these posts in total shock and amazement. we did not sponge bathe each other at all we did not do it in our shorts we did not do it in a fort we did not eat green eggs and ham... and we absolutely did not give each other im injections (...
  16. online RN to BSN

What kind of clinical (community? management?) and how is it arranged? Are you on your own or with a preceptor? I have never understood the concept of requiring clinical for people who are already RNs. It seems redundant to me.
  17. Crybaby

for those patients lacking in the diagnoses, use potential/high risk for also - most patients in the hospital have some sort of self-care deficit (or they'd be recooperating at home) - your intervention is teaching and assistance for the expected out...
  18. Hospitals Go Gourmet, Offer New Cuisine

I predict a rise in the number of patients that throw themselves out of bed rather than be discharged (kicked out of the hotel). Probably will increase the atmosphere of nursing being the "wait staff" as well...except, of course, no tips.
  19. There is also a Physiology Coloring Book - goes over things like neurotransmitters, cardiac conduction, etc. Very helpful if you're a visual person.
  20. Anyone Took The Bsn Route?

If you could, what would be the point of the 4th year? If you are asking if you could hit the "pause" button at that point and have an associate's degree, the answer is no. They are two different programs.
  21. Funny things you have said but wish you didn't

How dare them not give you a Whopper!! :angryfire I hope you let them have it on that Press-Gainey survey....oh wait, that's right. McDonalds is much smarter than hospitals and does not kill trees in the name of such foolishness.
  22. Don't Lose Your Clinical Skills?

No pre-op on call? Wow! Our pre-op nurses would love that! We keep a pre-op RN and a PACU RN on-call, so the pre-op nurse would be the back-up for PACU, if needed.
  23. Don't Lose Your Clinical Skills?

I think it depends a lot on the facility in which you work (also the geographic region and how things are done there) In the facilities I have worked in, there are holding room nurses, there are OR nurses, and there are PACU nurses. Three separate ...
  24. Black nurses VS. White nurses

Elvis v. Elvis Costello v. Elvis Stojko Elvis Stojko v. Phillipe Candellero v. Viktor Petrenko Straight hair v. curly hair Straight fries v. curly fries
  25. Agency nursing vs full time jobs; pros & cons

Only downside of agency I have experienced is (at least on some units) you get the patients that no one on staff wants (like the 3-C patients: Crazy, Combative, and C-diff +) YUCK!! on the other hand, at least you get more money to take them~~
