Hmm… Are you the “one manager” in attendance at these hypothetical gatherings? If so, is it affecting some aspect of your work? If it’s not about you, are you asking these questions with a specific situation in mind involving coworkers? If either of these is the case, I don’t know about everyone else but I know I give much better feedback when I have something to grab onto. ?

In what ways, specifically, are the patient and family difficult?

Who cares how it might look to some as-yet unknown entity? If you can make that change, go for it! I’m guessing that’s the advice you’d give to your bff or little sister/brother…or perhaps a patient…if one of them was in your shoes, isn’t it? When your mental and physical health are suffering as yours clearly are, all bets are off when it comes to adhering to societal, familial and/or self-imposed timelines, plans and the like. From what you’ve shared, and how you’ve shared it (I.e., clearly written with very few errors/extraneous details), I can tell that you’re not being hyper-emotional or irrational and you’re approaching this with clarity, which says to me that YOU have the answers! ?

When my beloved Crimson Tide lost the National Championship game, I didn’t stick around to revel in Georgia’s win and watch the trophy presentation. This is much ado about nothing…only accusations, pot stirring, and all the rest of that hyperbolic, hate-filled and hate-inciting…junk. And Judge Jackson wasn’t walked out on; she wasn’t even in the room.

First, congratulations on battling cancer — twice!! — and not only living to tell the tale, but living well enough to be able to get back to doing what I presume you love, which is your career! Have you reached out to your degree-conferring school's career center or the alumni association? Your school has a vested interest in your success.

First of all, I’m very sorry for what you’re experiencing. Obviously there are two sides to this story and I’m only hearing your side, but that doesn’t change the fact that you are feeling down and are in need of a shoulder…or maybe just a different perspective? What I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around is you receiving an email terminating you after you submitted your letter of resignation. So, I guess what I want to know is: To whom did you submit your resignation (your manager or HR)? Did you give notice or was it effective immediately? From whom did you receive the termination email (your manager or HR) and what did it say? Were you given a reason? Did the email acknowledge the fact that you’d already resigned? Did you have any negative performance reviews or disciplinary issues? I hope you don’t feel like I’m bombarding you. I’m really just trying to get a better sense of the events that lead to you being fired after you quit!

Hey @LittleRN, What state is this happening in? Can you provide a bit more information on the events leading up to this point? I’m sure this is a scary time for you to say the least.

A polygraph! Wow. I really feel for you…and can totally feel your pain (pun intended) as it relates to severe spinal stenosis. What state are you in? Have you had a lawyer at any point during your “troubles?”

I tried to edit a portion of what I wrote on 2/19/2022 at 1:25 AM — a post written while I was unable to sleep due to illness — but it seems that there’s a short window in which to do that and that window has since closed. And the reason I tried to edit it was because I believe I misread the situation and therefore gave an opinion that 1. wasn’t supported by a thorough understanding of the facts, and 2. may have given you a false sense of security. I apologize for not being more careful with my response to a very legitimate concern. Now, on to what I should’ve written! What state do you work in? As I’m sure you know, some of the rules/laws (the ADA, for example) relating to the “reach” of boards of nursing, health departments, monitoring programs, etc., are federally mandated, but some — if not most — are state-specific.

It sounds like you’re doing everything right—at least in terms of managing your illness, which, in the big picture (I.e., your life), is more important than anything including your nursing license. Edited to add that even though I don’t know you, I’m super proud of you. ?

I was previously in my state's monitoring program (self referral) for a DUI, was sober for 3 years, successfully completed the program. HR and my manager said that because nothing happened at work they won't turn me in to the BON. That's great...but that doesn't mean they aren't able to turn me into the monitoring program since the program allows nurses to be turned in to them behind the BON's back and without their involvement.  Since you’re no longer in your state’s monitoring program due to successfully having completed it (congratulations on that!!), then I’d imagine that’s a non-issue. And just so that I understand, is the breathalyzer a result of the DUI conviction?

Speaking of higher burdens being placed on EDs due to issues at the urgent-care level: I’ve been afflicted with migraines for nearly 30 years and have, for the most part, been able to treat them at home. But when that doesn’t work, I have to go to urgent care (or, if it’s outside of urgent care hours, the ER) for intravenous pain management. But it seems that isn’t an option anymore. The last time I went for migraine treatment, I was told that they don’t keep narcotics on site anymore. Thus, my pain was not treated effectively. So it’s not just the effects of COVID at the urgent-care level that’s leading to emergency rooms being overwhelmed.

Whoever was tasked with putting that video together did a terrible job. Actually, whoever thunk it up should be fired.

Actually, it appears that The Church of Christ, Scientist, whose members are known as Christian Scientists, does not actively oppose vaccination: ”Most of our church members normally rely on prayer for healing. It’s a deeply considered spiritual practice and way of life that has meant a lot to us over the years. So we’ve appreciated vaccination exemptions and sought to use them conscientiously and responsibly, when they have been granted. On the other hand, our practice isn’t a dogmatic thing.
