we have a separate count sheet. Oh how I wish I had a copy for you. It's a pain in the butt... We've got papers coming out of our ears...tray count sheets, count sheets for the count sheets. it's disgusting & a waste of time. How I wish we coul...

It's not that hard to get into, depending on your area. Some hospitals have new grad programs. Some don't. The ONLY reasons I would ever recommend floor experience first, is so you are comfy in your own skin as a nurse & have developed some of th...

We've also made the switch to Chlora-prep, with the exception of open wounds, vag or urology type procedures... And of course, we have the few docs who refuse to deviate from the good ol' betadine scrub & paint, & a few who only use Duraprep.

UGHGHGHG!!!!!! I am sooooo jealous!!! I've been asking to scrub for over a year. Can you let me know what state you're in? If they're still hiring, I want to go, too, LOL I have ortho trauma experience. If you like ortho, you will LOVE IT!!! It's s...
Soooo, I have CP, I truly AM allergic to morphine and I lie about my pain level. I always knock it down a notch, & I try to laugh, giggle & smile, talk on the phone. Whatever it takes to distract myself from the pain that I really am in. What...
Hmmm, I would check your state's website to make sure the oral surgeon was in good standing. In IL, there was a dentist using sedation, screwed up, & his YOUNG, like 6 yr old patient, died. He ended up losing his license, at least temporarily. ...

glad to hear he's doing well. I was fused 2 months ago, tomorrow & it as THE best thing I could have done for myself. Almost completely pain free, waiting for signs of actual bone fusion so I can get on track to get back to work in the form of wo...

ditto to the above posts, but why would you want to wake up a patient that is sleeping? If VS are scheduled Q4h, then do re-positioning, but not with a pillow under the knee. Waking up a peacefully sleeping post TKR is just as bad as waking up someo...
OMG... I feel your pain. Vascular cases in the ENT room, b/c there's no where else to do the case... That kind of thing happens all the time. We have suture trolleys! Seriously, stupid carts with suture for each of the various types of services. Vasc...
As a nurse, & a patient who has suffered from chronic, severe pain for the past several years, I would recommend getting that book that was mentioned.... and pray, really pray, that you NEVER have to be that pt who is being cared for by a nurse w...
Howdy. Just wondering what RN licensure fees are. I've checked the BON website for FL & can't find it. Also curious how often you have to renew & what your fees are for that as well. Thanks for the info... Looking into relocating within 6 mo...
Thanks Mom... maybe my adobe wasn't working b/c I couldn't even get that info you found. Thanks :) HEY JOLIE : ) OMG..... Fell in love with Clearwater/Tampa when we were down in February. Older kid (now 18) got her buns thrown out for refusing to com...
My hubby says my hearing is better than a dog & sometimes I have trouble understanding what is mumbled underneath those masks. Also not trying to discourage you from OR, but maybe a slower paced facility would work better for you. After 1 yr, th...

This is really sad! The amount of lifting we actually have to do with a patient, in addition to all that equipment. Every OR suite should be equipped with that Hover mattress. Nurses everywhere would suffer far less back pain.

Oh dear Lord... YOUTH DEW????? Eeeewwwww I really like most of my co-workers. Most of what I would like to say has been covered in these posts, but my favorite..... "Instead of whining about it like a 3 yr old for the past 20 minutes, you could have ...
Only time we have to position is when the light itself is being fussy & drifts or gets "stuck" & we will adjust then... other than that, docs do it themselves. Seriously, we're not in the right spot to properly position for their line of vis...

Depends if I'm on call & if the board isn't moving... If I'm staying, I like lunch about 1:30pm (before cafe' closes) Otherwise, I could care less, as long as I get a break & lunch.

Roller with sheet... anesthesia for head. Work at a teaching hospital so it's fun to boss the med students around... 1 for feet, 1 or 2 for each side... Usually, I'll take a newbie med student on my side so I can watch technique & be really bossy...
Usually, we will splint for ORIF's (open reduction internal fixations) of extremities... Sometimes a full cast, sometimes, just a posterior mold with Ace wrap. We'll splint extremities. If we're using pins, plates, screws we have the splinting mater...
As a former smoker (albeit a recent former smoker) who has also tried everything in the past..... I resorted to Chantix. It helped that I was the one who was ready to quit. But the Chantix really helped to take the edge off. Smoke free since 3-26-07....
Hmmmppphhhh... I guess it would depend on the facility. Our patients were so damn sick, you would wonder how in the hell they "qualified" to be on an acute rehab unit.. I would consider my old unit med/surg with quadruple the work due to all the reh...
Hi Florida nurses. Looking into relocating. Couldn't find on the DOH website how often you renew & what your RN renewal fees are. Thanks, in advance, for answering for me... : )
