It's a grass is greener on the other side situation:
Everyone and their mother is going to PMHNP programs or getting a post-master cert. The percentage increase for PMHNP graduates is the highest of any speciality. The "great hours" and high pa...
I think it depends on wording:
It's either "You make your collections up to 100K, then 20% above" which is the calculation of misusing the 100K first. Or it's You have base salary of 100K PLUS 20% of collections which would be 100K plus 20% of y...
Most psych providers do 30-60 min appts. It is beneficial for the patient (less rushed appt), the provider (more time with patient, for charting, etc), and for the employer (can code for the therapy add ons to bill for higher). I see 8-12 per day tot...
Are you kidding? Do you do psych?
99214 is a complexity code. In psych it applies to 90% + of patients. Having a prescription + 2 diagnoses that are stable (MDD and GAD with lexapro for example) is automatically a 99214 even if the appt i...
Smart! Did you contract with insurance or self pay only? Several of my colleagues have gone private practice but they keep getting gobbled up by the big players trying to consolidate because they have trouble negotiating favorable insurance rates on ...
Have you hired any partners/someone to work under you? It's working out to be about $196 per hour. You could hire a psych NP to work under you for $150,000 per year and if they bring in the same $196 per hour they will bring in $360,000 a year workin...
Would love this to be true, in reality I’ve rarely met an NP who advocates for themselves. I often see those billing 300-400K annually while being paid $95K with 2 weeks vacation and 50 hour work weeks. Makes me want to open my own practice and emplo...
The idea that someone’s WORK should come before being there for a dying family member is laughable to me. I’m sorry, reschedule patients, it’s outpatient, they’ll be fine. There’s no chance on Earth I would miss a chance to say goodbye to a loved one...
Looking for a new malpractice company and Berxi is coming up as like $400 a year. Most others are $1,000+. Is Berxi legit and usually that cheap or did I do something wrong? Thanks!

Um - NP education was never meant to replace medical school, this is correct....but let's not kid ourselves that they ever intended it to be 500 clinical hours at schools that accept anyone with a pulse even if they are complete idiots and unleash th...

Ya'll are missing the point on the hard sciences thing. It's not about learning and memorizing those advanced concepts because they are directly helpful for patient care...it's that proving you CAN master the advanced understanding of pathways and pa...

I mean, this is not news. Chamberlain basically behaves similar to a diploma mill. I called once (as a joke) just to see what it was like and the lady on the phone basically acted like a sales person telling me how easy it would be to get into the NP...

I think nursing leaders are playing the short term gain game of more NPs = more money for them through testing and accreditation and licensing so I don’t know if they care.
I have had experience with for profit students as I precepted one...

You are a PMHNP?
Most of us make around $120-$150 WITH full benefits.
For independent contractor I would imagine $200 per hour minimum. Paying your own insurance, PTO, retirement without match, etc plus all your own payroll taxes.

Plenty of in state programs are that cheap. And a lot more reputable than these online diploma mills. But they often require tests and references and interviews and actual selectivity and so many nurses just can’t be “bothered” with all that when bec...

Is there a way we could possibly get a “NP Residency & Fellowship” - they are becoming more popular and I feel a dedicated sub forum on here could be useful.
MentalKlarity replied to DNPgrad2022's topic in NP
My unpopular opinion: NP school is "soft" on hard sciences because half of nurse practitioner students would fail out, nursing schools would have to be more selective, and their cash cow funds would dry up. The for-profit programs, if they required s...

4000 NP grads a year from chamberlain LOL!
They are basically single handedly responsible for flooding the NP market (along with Walden) and those two schools make up a substantial chunk of graduation nurse practitioners.

It's a totally different experience. No, NP school does not do a good job preparing students for practice - PAs and Medical Students are terrified and fumble for months in residency/first jobs and they have 2,000-4000 hours of clinical. The requireme...
How long are appts? I had burnout when I had 20 min appts. I switched to 30+ min follow ups and 60 min intakes and capped at 10 patients or so a day. Made a huge difference

One or two years helps just with being comfortable in a hospital, recognizing what certain things look like and how patients present. It helps later for you to be able to connect the dots and say “ah yes I remember what appendicitis looks like in act...
