    District School Nurse

I am a district school nurse and what this quote above says is very true. Lots of meetings and planning and long hours for sure. I did not get a pay raise and I still am responsible for my own school. The love I have for my job keeps me going but ...

    Student w/ PDN

In our district, if a student has a PDN we have a "hands off" policy. The company that the PDN works for takes full responsibility and liability for the student.

    Best Remote Nurse Jobs?

How about trying a medical office or outpatient area? A little less crazy as far as hours go but, of course, every job has it's own kind of stress. I found that when I left bedside for a regular, 8 to 4, Monday through Friday gig, I was happier. I...
  6. I have worked in many different areas and I have to say that I learned more in a primary care clinic than anywhere else. The doctors have time to "teach" as we go through the day. I had a lot of knowledge so I worked in triage often and it really he...

Mask Mandate in MA Schools Ending on 3/1

I would love to drop contact tracing. That is the most difficult part of all this. Our county is not contact tracing so I am not sure why we do it at school.

Mask Mandate in MA Schools Ending on 3/1

Following this closely because we just found out we will be mask optional starting Monday. Are we going to be quarantining entire classrooms again? are parents going to pushback on the mandatory 5 day masking after the 5 day quarantine when they co...

    Student who was refusing epi-pen

What an awful experience! When I started in school nursing I was so happy to tell students that nothing ever hurt when they came to the nurse's clinic (I didn't think about epi pens). This last couple of years have broken my heart because we now gi...

    Overbearing Parent Help

Wow! No way to all of that! I am so sorry your administration is not supporting you on this. They really need to have a meeting and discuss this with the parent. Explaining face to face with the parent may help them understand why it is unacce...

    Office Testing

We offer PCR testing for diagnostic only. We have a standing order from our state health director. The results go to the parents and we let them know that they need to seek medical attention.

    PPE concerns as we return

What are your plans for isolating students that are possibly contagious with COVID when students that need ice, meds, bandage, etc. come in to the office??? My space is very small. Worried about how I will handle this.

Do you think schools will resume this year?

    ED nurse to School Nurse

Once I became certified as a school nurse my pay increase put me slightly under what I was making in the hospital. It really depends on your district. I factor in that I now have government retirement to look forward to as well as the amazing hours...

    Passed CPNE!!!

Congratulations!! I took mine over 8 years ago with Excelsior and I still remember the stress of that weekend! Thankful I passed on the first try and did not have to endure that pressure again. It is stressful but completely doable. Relax and kno...

    Please help, feel trapped

I am a school nurse because I was burnt out working crazy hours. I love it!! It is much more challenging that I thought it would be. I have great hours and still get to use my assessment skills all day. The school I work in has a high number of c...

    Stolen supplies

This is so sad! I will admit that I am getting a little nervous by the COVID-19 situation because I have a child that is immunosuppressed and has heart and lung issues but I am smart enough to not wipe out all the supplies so that the essential peop...

Those days where you mumble "WTHeck" to yourself

A "real nurse" or school nurse

Why do we let those words get to us???? I hate to hear those words so much. Not sure why because I am confident in my position. After all the hard work and determination it takes to complete our nursing degrees, we want to be acknowledged for it. ...
