Love all things medical.
Have held several positions- hospital- Instructor trainer for BLS

Honored to be voted 1st LPN of excellence by hospital years ago.

Honored to have served on our States Board for Nursing.  Filled empty spot for 9 years and remained an extended board member for 5 years more.

4 Different director positions at present agency.  Director of Health (Nurses only), Director of Clinical Services ( Nurses, Behaviorists, QIDPs and Family care), Director of Integrated Services (Clinical Services plus Residential Services), and now Director of Clinical Education & Auditor.  I’ve learned a lot along the way.

If I was just 10 years younger, I’d go ahead and become a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners. I take classes all the time because I love to learn.

KalipsoRed21, Sorry to not have answered until now. When I went into Management I was already in my 40's and my son was grown. The work I did was not floor work, so no one was lacking for my time. The nurses cases were homes and I would go th...

  3. Been an RN for 20 years, can't take anymore

I understand the need to get away from nursing. I started young and had over 29 years when I left the hospital and was nowhere near retirement. I had back surgery for a herniated disc with immediate left foot and back of leg numbness. I went back ...
  4. Management Criticism: "We see you care a great deal…"

I worked as a staff nurse for almost 30 years, then went into a director's position. There was no nurse In administration when I got there. It was a disaster. Leadership was sorely needed. I learned the hard way. Listen, learn, react and follow ...
  5. Career Change From Adult Oncology to NICU, Nervous!

You made your decision, now stick with it if only for the experience. Nights are hard for some people and take getting used to. Keep a strict schedule for a couple of months to help you adjust. Consistently put a request in for any day positions th...
  6. I hope her MO was total insanity because even that is not good enough. I really don't care what her MO was. No matter what it was , it was wrong. I don't think she fell through the cracks, I think it was allowed to fall through the cracks. Many in...
  7. Nurse Accused of Gossiping

I think you did such a good job on your last project that your supervisor would say anything to keep you in the position to do another. Did you ever think, that you make your supervisor look good? Some supervisors are not gracious enough to lift s...
  8. Inevitable Resignation

Sounds like an abuse of a good service meant to support people when they have 6 months or less to live, this sounds even worse since an admission was made into a SNF and medications were ordered on a regular basis instead of PRN as is usual for hospi...
  9. I agree that this person has some sort of mental disturbance, but isn't every death fully investigated? If so, might this have stopped with death one? Per the original write in, The unit's lead consultant first raised concerns about ...
  10. What else can be done about a nurse sleeping on duty??

This has happened in so many different units. We had an older RN who meant well but could not keep up with her work. I went to the Nurse Manager and told her what was happening. I stressed that she had thrived in the organization for years and had...

  12. Staff Treating Patients Poorly Or Am I Too Sensitive

Please resign as soon as you can. You can put in your resignation that it is a hostile work environment and you have had issues with some of the staff. The HR department may want to interview you. You have co-workers that will deny anything you sa...
  13. Staff Treating Patients Poorly Or Am I Too Sensitive

No, your not too sensitive, your professional and compassionate. I agree you should document everything! Don’t sign for what you don’t give. I have dealt with nurses telling me to do this and or co-sign a disposal of a narcotic which I did ...
  14. Refusing to Sign Off On Others Assessments

Well that settles that. I hope the LPNs are not supervising you. They should not be supervising a RN that holds a higher level of education and licensure then they do. How could they legally. When I was a LPN I started IVs, but I could not start ...
  15. I can't do a thorough patient assessment?

So sorry you are in this situation. There are places on the web where you can listen to examples of lung, heart and abdominal sounds. I would definitely do a full assessment on all patients assigned to me. Once you make it a normal practice, you w...
