My DON accused me of patient abandonment during a snowstorm

This is a New DON in charge. I remember from the previous DON who were there for 23 years but left, if there's a snow storm or any normal days she would asked us to do a double then give us a day off the next day or whenever we wanted it this is to compromise.

My DON accused me of patient abandonment during a snowstorm

No she did not asked me to stay. This is exactly what I said Monday afternoon before the snowstorm. DON, I can do a double tomorrow (tuesday-snowstorm day) if I can have the Wednesday off. She told me yes I could make that work. Tuesday came and there was no call out, my name was not on the sched too to do a double. I told my Senior Nurse the one that I work with all the time that I wish I can stay because I don't drive. I take uber going to work btw. So my Senior nurse called the Scheduler and asked if there was any call out, there was one Nurse unsure if shes still coming. I talk to the DON again, I asked her if I can do a double if there's any call out and have the next day off she said no they could not make it work since the snow will be until at 5AM and for sure there will be alot of call outs in the Morning. My understanding and the understanding of my Senior was they want to keep my schedule, that I would just do 7-3 last Tuesday and Wednesday which is my original sched. Also there was 5 Nurses on my floor. 1. My senior Nurse who is doing a double and on the schedule. 2. The Nurse who received me. 3. Extra Nurse. 4. Unit Manager who is staying until 5pm. 5. Assistant Unit Manager who is staying until 5pm as well.

I don't think I'm going to get the unemployment. They will reason out about me leaving that day, thats probably their plan after all to fire me its just that I handed off my resignation earlier than what they've expected.

My DON accused me of patient abandonment during a snowstorm

At that time I was supposed to go to another floor because there was a call out. I approached her twice I said if I will do a double can I take the next day off. She said No twice and walk out. She kept insisting that I knew about it that I'm covering the other floor and that I left but then again I'm done with my shift I gave my status report, all my patients were stable. And everybody stayed expect me, I didn't stay because why would I if I'm not allowed to do a double and have a day off. I don't know about the unemployment. On my resignation I stated the reason why I'm leaving the Facility. Is that a bad thing? Or probably was that the reason why they fired me instead of waiting for my last 2 weeks to be done? And we dont have union.

Fired for Falsifying Documents. What to expect

I've done the same thing, not just once. This can happen because sometimes when you go to a patients room either they are not there -- with Rehab or was asleep. Did your higher ups said anything to you about reporting you to the BON? If not then I would not worry about it. BON are more concerned with Narcs being dispense, not that I'm saying it is okay to leave meds on the cart but what I learned was is to check my drawers before leaving. I know it's easier said than done, but start anew. What happened, happened. Use this situation as a reminder for you not to make the same mistake again.

My DON accused me of patient abandonment during a snowstorm

I know. This had me all confused because I was told it's abandonment since I left the building without telling her amidst the storm.

My DON accused me of patient abandonment during a snowstorm

I forgot to mention ( so I edited my post) that I gave my 2 weeks notice last Wednesday. I'm writing everything right now like what you said. I have every information and witnesses that heard her say No. And yes I do not understand when she said it's abandonment when I left the building and I didn't say anything to her.

I was speechless. I wish I knew that my request was granted. All I want was a compromise.
