That is so frustrating. I'm wondering if you could talk to your administration about writing a short policy on vaccine exemptions so that could be provided to parents as needed.
I tell them what documentation I need and explain that without the documentation their child might be excluded from school. I've had parents ask me for help filling out the documents/what to write. I do not assist in the process. I provide the lin...

Contact your state's school board. These laws vary from state to state. If you Google "(your state) school board of education school nurse" you may find the contacts for the person who deals with school health.

This is so frustrating. I had a teacher who wasn't wearing a mask. A student snuck a photo and sent to their mom. Mom emailed it to me. I ran up there ENRAGED. Have you discussed with admin?

I don't have a school physician but a few of our kids go to the same allergist. He happily fills out orders for stock Epi. Try calling some of the local allergists!
Don't forget about magic thermometer hands. I had to make a special note this year that staff isn't allowed to touch children's faces to decide if they have a fever or not ?
Heartbreaking--one of our own. She was a devoted school nurse who came out of retirement to work remotely as a school nurse during the pandemic.

Can you not follow the CDC post-vaccination considerations? We still send home but no COVID test if symptoms are in line with expected vaccine reaction and resolve within 48 hours of receiving the vaccine.

Very bizarre. I'm sure we've said those two words in the same sentence but not next to each other. @Joe V can you help? We already get enough outsiders telling us we're evil from time to time ?

Know your state laws! I don't know if Texas has any on these issues, but Illinois does and somehow I was the only one who looked into it (administrators had no idea).

I'm in Illinois and follow the IDPH Communicable Diseases in Schools chart. Exclusion criteria for conjunctivitis states: "Exclude if conjunctivitis is accompanied by symptoms of systemic illness or if the child is unable to keep hands away from eye...
This is such an unfortunate mistake. I'm sorry this is happening to you. It seems like you're doing the right thing with a lawyer on retainer. Wishing you the best of luck!

I let them rest for a bit, drink water, and see if there's improvement. I've had the same kids for a while, so if it's a child who gets headaches frequently I'm less concerned. That being said, we've had 3 COVID cases in kids under 10 where the onl...
I have a Magic Chef one that I got from MacGill or School Nurse Supply. It's been working well for me since the 2018-2019 school year. It's a little noisy.
I haven't given a narcotic in my 4 years at a private school, but like others have said controlled ADHD meds are very common. I can give narcotics if prescribed and appropriate.

I don't understand why you would share your opinion of transitioning with a child. I'm a school nurse, and we've had multiple students ask to change name/pronoun and some have gone back to their original names/pronouns. I'll call anyone whatever th...
Agreed. We weren't sure if we'd open in August (we did), but we started making plans at the end of June. As soon as school was out administration switched gears and went from "how to make remote learning better" to "how to open a school without out...
