  1. UTA-FNP Spring 2018

You'll still graduate with your MSN, you'll still be able to sit for boards...BUT you will have a LOT of difficulty finding preceptors and if you have questions on assignments or require clarification on anything, you'll have difficulty getting answe...
  2. UTA-FNP Spring 2018

I feel like if you have a checkbook, you'll get in. I transferred out after my first semester - and I know many others who did the same.
  3. UTHealth Houston FNP Summer 2018

I interviewed 1/29 for FT and have not heard back. Are me, JanuaryMSN, BSN, RN, and NICU RN the only ones still waiting?
  4. UTHealth Houston FNP Summer 2018

Has anyone interviewed and received a "No"? Has anyone interviewed and not heard anything? Trying to gauge this... Thank you!!
  5. UTA-FNP Spring 2018

    I'm in Theory too. :/
  6. UTHealth Houston FNP Summer 2018

I have to say that my interviewers were not friendly - not a single smile. One wouldn't make eye-contact, while the other stared intently occasionally reading questions off her paper. Very awkward. It sounds like everyone who was admitted (and it ...
  7. UTHealth Houston FNP Summer 2018

I had my interview yesterday as well. I'm awful in an interview setting, so I don't feel like it went well, but hopefully my grades and experience help to make up for it. I applied for full-time and was told it's a hybrid program where a majority i...
  8. How did you get your ER position?

I'd say your best bet is to work as a tech or unit secretary in that department. Be awesome, get to know the managers and other staff, then apply for an internship position when you graduate.
  9. What Are Private Conversations?

If you message someone who hasn't posted 15 times, can they still see/reply to the message?
  10. Yes! I've been hit/kicked/spit on too many times. I'll accept all the warnings I can get.
  11. Tips for first clinical?

Be a sponge - just soak it all in and learn, learn, learn!
  12. Any success stories for getting in Texas BSN Program with 3.0-3.25 Science GPA?

Have you considered retaking any classes at community college? I'm not saying it's easier...but you'll likely find smaller science classes and professors with more time to sit with you and explain things you're not understanding (that's been my expe...
  13. What would you have done differently?

Are you having to find your own preceptors? If so, that's something you should start thinking about/networking toward.
  14. Experience required for NP schools

Go for it! Clinical experience doesn't have to be in a hospital (think home health, ambulatory centers, etc). If you're doing FNP, you should be fine in most programs.
  15. Apply at Ideal Image or the like! Many of these places will train you on these procedures (paid training!), even for part-timers. Otherwise, you have the option of attending classes at National Laser Institute or somewhere similar, like the Atlanta...
  16. Update: Well ain't this a *****

Great job - you worked hard for this!
  17. Frustrated New Grad

Keep applying! Try to network with NP/PA groups on FB in your area as someone is bound to post something. It's all about networking unfortunately. Have you applied to all the places where you did clinicals? Keep us updated!
  18. UTA FNP 2016

I am curious as to which courses transferred. I am starting at UTA in the spring, hoping to get into UT Houston's summer session and transfer 6 hours there, and trying to choose courses accordingly. Any suggestions? Thank you!
  19. UTA FNP 2016

I'm curious as to which courses ended up transferring? I'm starting at UTA 1/15 and am applying to UTHouston's summer session hoping to transfer 6 hours to UTHouston. Thank you!
  20. What’s in your bag/what should I have as a newbie?

I work med/surg and always keep phone chargers in my purse. Almost weekly, I have patients who came to the ER, were unexpectedly admitted, and their phones have died and they can't get their contacts to call anyone. They always appreciate it!! Oth...
  21. What do you think of 12 hour shifts

I love 12 hour shifts, especially when you're getting/giving report to the same nurses. I think it's great for the patients and continuity of care to only see 2 nurses per 24 hour period. More time to focus on the patient and their progress.
  22. The long, scenic route

Congrats, you're going to do great - the time will fly by!
  23. 2 year sobriety, thank God!

I'm ten years this year! Congrats, huge accomplishment! Life keeps getting better! :)
  24. UTA-FNP Spring 2018

I'm starting January 15 too! I was told you basically just need to meet the requirements and you're in, so there's that.
