I don’t know the answer to your first question, but I’m pretty confident that applicants are considered for certain units based on their preceptorship. I received an offer for the ICU new grad float pool and my preceptorship was in the ICU. I also have a friend that had an interview for a peds unit and she did a peds preceptorship.
It’s good that you’ve already applied for your license since it can take a bit of time! I went to school on the East Coast as well! The board actually approved all my things relatively quickly, it was my school that held things up. They took forever to send my nursing school transcripts, but I ended up getting my ATT Jan. 18, taking the NCLEX in early February when graduated in December.
