I have recently started a Masters Degree program in Nursing Informatics and wanted to join one of the professional organizations related to informatics. Which professional organization does everyone belong to?

Specializes in Informatics, Education, and Oncology.

Greetings Bill,

Congrats on starting your masters program. Which school?

Please feel free to read other posts on this forum and contribute to the dicussions.

Just as there are numerous MS NI programs so too with NI organizations. Some are more grass roots and local, others are more national.

I am a member of CARING, AMIA/NIWG, ANIA, HIMSS NI, and ANI.

Those are just the national organizations.

I've also been a member of MINING (Minessota NI organization), BANIC(Boston),

INFO (Ohio) and will soon be joining Puget Sounds NI group.

IMHO, CARING has the best listserve, AMIA is the best for academic and research based informatics practice, HIMSS of course has the best annual conference - in Chicago this year, YEA MY HOME TOWN! ..............although the combined annual CARING and ANIA conference is excellent too!

AMIA, ANIA and HIMSS are all good resources related to jobs.

Membership fees range anywhere from $10 -$300/yr. I think all have discounted student memberships

Each has its pros and cons, all are good networking resources and most NIs belong to more than one association/organization.

Good Luck!
