Private home nurse?

Published

Hi I have a question for my cousin of mine..

She work for more than 1 year as a "Private home nurse" (in our country in Phillippines to be exact)

And now she came here in US and wanting a nursing job coz now she a licensed nurse here in US. So I looked to her resume and see her experience.

My question is, can she put to her job title as "private home nurse" even she's not registered in our country?

She said her job there is like a nurse, like giving meds (pills, tablets), be with the residents (cause they are couple), accompany to doctors appointment, taking vital signs, but theres no IV involve and some nursing procedures, just patient teaching, proper nutrition, rehab support, meds reminder, something like that.

Though she a BSN grad in pur country, can she made up a job title like "private home nurse" coz theres no agency that who hired there its just the family thats why she put the word "private". Though many people and BSN grad there they keep saying its a "private nurse job"

For me private home nurse is sounds good for me but I dont know if its okay. Haha :D

So do you have any suggestion what to put to her resume as a job title for that?

Please help us coz even me I dont know what to say to her thanks :)

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

If she was not a licensed nurse then she was not entitled to use the title of nurse. She would be private duty home health assistant/aide. What you describe she did is the work of a home health aide in the US. She should not make up job titles especially if not legally entitled to use such a professional title.

The correct title would be "Private Duty Home Health Aide" as everything you described (accompany to physician appt, ADLs, medication reminders, vitals) is within the job description of a home health aide.
