We know nurses need to prioritize just as much as living beings need to breathe.
During which step in the nursing process do you think the nurse should prioritize most?
Prioritizing is a process that involves the use of critical thinking and logical reasoning.
In which order do you think the following patient situations should be prioritized? Why?
a)A 30-year old pregnant woman who smokes 2 packs of cigarettes a day
b)A teenage girl with severe acne who is very depressed and refuses to make eye contact
c)A newly diagnosed diabetic who lacks knowledge about diet exchanges
d)An elderly woman newly admitted with acute abdominal pain of unknown origin
Now this is a classroom discussion question that I am still thinking about how to approach and answer and state sound rationale.
PS: I know there are people out there who will chide me about posting this question here. I am looking for a discussion that will stimulate my own thinking process. If you feel like telling me something on the line of "do your own homework" - please don't bother with that because I still feel like I need to hear what experienced nurses think and why. You have a choice. Only those who are willing to discuss need to reply to this thread. If I don't get any answers, I'll know what you mean.

you would have to go to the first one thats the most unstable. a,,c are stable at the moment. c is a lesser priority compared to d because c is more stable than d. d would be most concerned about because you would need to evaluate it immediately so that patient will be a priority

I think d,c,a,b D being the least stable and applying the ABC to remainder
