Prior arrest affect nursing license?

Published

Hello there, I'm wondering about getting into the RN program in PA. I have been arrested 3 times for possession of marijuana but I have never been convicted. I received 2 conditional discharges & one was thrown out in court. I want to apply to the nursing program but wanted to know if this will stop me from getting a license. I was arrested but never plead guilty or was charged with a crime at any time. Anyone can help me?

Most applications ask if you were ever convicted, not arrested.

I have an arrest in 2008 for drug possession, I completed a drug diversion program and the case got dismissed without me ever getting convicted. However, all arrests show up on the background check even if you were not convicted. I am just finishing up nursing school so I was still able to get in. I had to have a meeting with a staff member, who was extremely understanding and passed no judgement. She assured me that I would be able to get a nursing license, but I can't attest to that yet since I am still in school. Also, be prepared to discuss how you have been rehabilitated/changed.

Good luck!
