Previous Edition Books

I'm starting school on September 2nd and I have been given books from a friend that graduated this year...my problem is, most of them are the previous edition from what my book list says.

So, does anyone have experience using previous editions and what have you experienced? Is there a lot of content change? Is it hard to follow? Did you find yourself breaking down and buying the newer version?

Any help would be appreciated...getting down to the wire here!!!

Good luck everyone...we can do it!

Someone that was in my last semester class was in it for the 2nd time and they had changed a lot of the versions of the books between semesters. She used her old books and it seemed to work. The page numbers might be off from what the newer editions have, but usually there are minimal changes.

That being said, I am one of those who would break down and buy new books. That's just how I am though - have to have EXACTLY what they are looking for!

Good luck!

Yes, I am the type that would like to buy all new books too...but really can't keep spending needless money if these are going to be good enough...certainly if I find they are not working, I'll break down and get them...my fear is just being lost and not knowing what I'm doing, but if it's mostly page numbers and not content...I can live!

Exactly...wait and see, and then spend the money!

You could also contact your instructor or the Nursing Department as well and see if they have an opinion on it, but like I said, the girl in my class was able to use hers...

Unless your class, which none of mind did, had you doing certain activities on certain pages of the new edition it really shouldn't be a problem especially if you are a good student. I often bought the cheap older editions used from Amazon.com although just to be on the safe side if it was a subject I perceived to be tough, for me, I would get the correct edition. I'm all about being frugal but didn't want saving $25 dollars to be the reason I failed out!

Good luck.

I almost never have the same edition as my class (always buy my books on ebay) and have one of the highest averages... not that I think it's due to the older editions, but it definately hasn't hurt me:wink2:

This is great news...just what I was hoping to hear...I have not experienced doing this myself and was really worried about it. I feel MUCH better and ready to get started. THANKS!!!!

All though nursing school I used books an edition or two older than the suggested books. Never once did it make a difference except to my pocketbook :wink2:
