How the Presidency began.
President Trump Delivers Inaugural Address

Quote We, the citizens of America, are now joined in a great national effort to rebuild our country and restore its promise for all of our people. Together we will determine the course of America and the world for many, many years to come. We will face challenges. We will confront hardships. But we will get the job done. Every four years, we gather on these steps to carry out the orderly and peaceful transfer of power. And we are grateful to President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama for their gracious aid throughout this transition. They have been magnificent. Thank you. Today's ceremony, however, has very special meaning. Because today, we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another or from one party to another. But we are transferring power from Washington, D.C., and giving it back to you, the people. For too long, a small group in our nation's capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost. Washington flourished, but the people did not share in its wealth. Politicians prospered, but the jobs left. And the factories closed It belongs to everyone gathered here today and everyone watching all across America. This is your day. This is your celebration. And this, the United States of America, is your country. What truly matters is not which party controls our government but whether our government is controlled by the people. January 20th, 2017 will be remembered as the day the people became the rulers of this nation again. The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer.....

What a joke of a speech...

I think it's a good speech. Very well written. Much better on paper than listening to him speak it in person which I could only handle a couple of minutes of.
There is no way, no how he wrote that speech or even means a word of it, other than touting his accomplishments (which is a fair thing to do).

A good speech isn't insincere and full of lies and misrepresentations.
"Now more than ever, we must unify around our shared values and rise above the partisan rancor, and forge our common destiny."
That's insincere at best. The majority of us don't have shared values with Trump...that's why he's a one term and twice impeached embarrassment. Trump is incapable of rising above partisan rancor, he proved that decisively over and over again during his presidency. He's merely hoping that he won't be prosecuted for inciting insurrection if he says words that sounds appropriate now.

We have to acknowledge that we all have different values and goals and how to achieve them, but it's true that "now more than ever we must unify around our shared values and rise above the partisan rancor and for our common destiny".
I'm not saying that it's going to happen given or that it's even sincere which is why I know he didn't write those words, but that doesn't make it any less true.
It's as if he's encouraged people living in an apartment building to fight each other and burn the apartment down. He leaves it in wreckage and says "now find some common ground and rebuild it yourself". It's a horrible thing to do but if those people want a place to live they are going to have to find a way to rebuild that building and it's best achieved together.
Pipe dream I know. We're not that country anymore. We'll never see another Golden Gate Bridge, Hoover Dam, or care about each other to get something like a New Deal. We're dumbed down and hell bent on destruction.
@Tweety
You may be correct...this country may not actually survive this battle with itself and the ugly that was inflamed by Trump and the propagandists.
