Prescription Meds

Published

I have a question about prescription meds. I have about $600 worth prescription medication that I paid for out of pocket because insurance didn't cover it and now I can't take it. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can possibly get any of the money back that I paid for them? The pharmacy I purchased from has strict "no return" policy and the Dr. who prescribed them will not reimburse either. I am a nurse and know that it is illegal to sell prescription meds, but I didn't know if anyone knew of a pharmacy or anything that would take them. They are fertility meds (if that makes a difference).

I know there are organizations that will take unexpired, noncontrolled meds to developing countries but I don't know if they will take fertility meds.

You might be able to deduct them from next year's income taxes. This will work only if you have enough qualifying medical expenses.

Back in 1998-2001, hubby and I did 5 cycles of IVF. We had about 3k worth of meds that were going to be wasted (we adopted :) ). Our fertility clinic had a "give back" program. We didn't get any money back, but the meds were donated to another infertile couple. It's better than throwing them out!

I am not sure that living in a developing country should automatically disqualify you from having kids..even if you need some help.

To the OP..I am sure that you can find some orginization to take them...as far as being reimbursed...I aggree..I think you may be out of luck.

Thanks for the ideas...the clinic I go to doesn't take meds back but I will look more into maybe finding one that will take them. I would rather them go to someone else than just be thrown away. :)

I'm sure there would be lots of takers, but that would unfortunately be illegal, as the OP pointed out. Although, some of the posters on those boards might have suggestions.

Other than that, the only thing I can think of is possibly contacting the manufacturer and asking if they have some sort of buy-back program.

I hope you can recoup some of your money.
