Presby vs. CMC in Charlotte

U.S.A. North Carolina

I have applied to Presby nursing school, but already know my best chance of getting in is not until Fall 2006. I'm thinking of applying to CMC. I'm getting my CNA certification there and thought my chances may be better at getting in. Anyone know if one school is better than the other? Or if getting in is any different?

Presbyterian is a very good nursing school (I graduated from the program in Dec). CMC is also very good, and would be cheaper as they offer the tuition incentive program. Presby doesn't offer that anymore as they merged with Queens.

CPCC is also an option, they have an outstanding program. Good luck to you.

The school I have applied and gotten accepted to (for Fall 2005) is Mercy School of Nursing.

It is KIND of through CMC, but it's much smaller. The FULL load of all 5 semesters worth of students is 125 (I believe) students.

It's an awesome school from visiting it... I'm so excited!

I was just accepted into CCHS and am currently living out of state in Michigan. I don't know to much about the school and would love to hear more information that you may have about the nursing program, campus and the city of Charlotte! Any info would be great!

Hi everyone and JSumich,

I am graduating from CCHS on Thursday and have enjoyed my time there.. I started with a semester of Gen Ed classes in August '03 and have been going full-time ever since. Charlotte is a nice city to live in-it's in transition from being considered a small city to a large city so it has the charms of both.. There are great restaurants and things to do if you like to socialize.. The weather is pretty mild, it never gets too cold but it has been over 100 degrees a few times this summer and the humidity is tremendous.. CCHS is not too big-my summer class has 30 graduating students so you get to know most of the faces around the school pretty quickly (the campus is small-one building really) and mostly everyone is friendly-the instructors will go out of their way to help you I've found..

If you have a chance to complete any Gen Ed requirements before coming I would do so to ease the work load of nursing classes, it made my life easier for the last semester not to have extra work. The classes are not too hard-the same as you would need to do anywhere-STUDY and be prepared for clinicals especially for they are not that long. Study very hard for Peds.. CCHS is associated with the CMC hospital where we do all clinicals and our nursing studnets are considered pretty highly among the staff there..We work in various floors for 7 weeks-I've done med-surg neuro and ortho but you can do renal, oncology to trauma step down too. The last rotation- NUR 202 was a great class because we did critical care in the MICU but also SICU, ER and Trauma..Psych was my favorite rotation because we rotated to a few different areas within their psych hospital..

It's a pretty great place if you want it to be and utilize the instructors' knowledge and not be afraid-they're really trying to foster a learning environment overall I think..

If you have any other questions please ask..

Thank you for putting some more information about CMC.

I have question what is CCMS? Also, where do i need to go for admission to CMC? What document required to get admission. Any exam do i need to take before i get admission.

Do you have any knowledege if person done her Nursing out side of US and trying to go to CMS do they transfer credit? like in college they do.

If you have any website link where i can find some info could you please post it.

Thank you

Hi!

CCHS's website is http://www.carolinascollege.edu

(Carolinas College of Health Sciences)

CMC is the hospital it is associated with and its website is http://www.carolinas.org

I'm not sure about transferring from a foreign country but I know TOEFL is required if English is not your first language.. They go by SAT scores and previous college GPA. They are pretty generous in giving credits by transfer in the US I know..

Hope this helps!

hey, I am currently going to presby. It is now Presbyterian school of nursing at Queens university. I did not know if you knew the two had merged. There has been a lot of confusion with the merger. Presbyterian still has a name that people know. I will agree the CMC or Mercy Schools are probably cheaper. Queens will cost you $270 a credit hour. I love it. The teachers are great.

Good Luck with your decision. :)

I hate to be black and white but I think your best option is the Carolinas College of Health Sciences. My son just started the Rad Tech program so I feel I'm getting good info. He said that if you take your prerequisites at CCHS and maintain a "B" averge, you will be automatically accepted into the nursing program. I also think that they have a new class starting each semester. I've worked at Presby, CMC, Mercy, Gaston, NEMC, and LNRMC and have to say I recommend CMC as the kind of experience I would want my nurse to have.

By the way... I graduated from the Cabarrus College of Health Sciences.

Good luck,

Mark

Mark,

Mercy is a WONDERFUL school (as I am sure CCHS is, we have students there in my psych. class), but mercy is much smaller. You said you've worked for cmc AND mercy... you do know mercy is CMC right?

Well i am currently in the program at presby, I love it! The staff is awsome classes are laid back and the general atmosphere makes it seem like you not at school. I got in at cmc too, i hear they have a great program. As far as cost they are about the same!
