Does anyone have any pointers on taking this test... I've been out of school for 4 years and things are a little rusty. I bought the Study Guide and the cliff notes study guide and I'm starting to freak out a little bit. I really need to do well. Any advice I get will be appreciated!!

The study guide by Mary McDonald is all you need. You should do the practice tests and then you'll be able to identify your areas of weakness. I would give yourself a good amount of time to study if it is an important factor for your admission. Set up a study schedule and stick to it. I used this study guide and I scored 99% for diploma programs and a 98% for ASN and BSN programs. Put the effort into studying and you'll do great. Good luck! :)

in my opinion, the nln pre-entrance exam study guide (link below) is the best i've found out of everything (and trust me, i've got quite a few!!!) it is the closest to what you will be tested on in the exam. i also have the cliffs notes but i have not looked at it really. i took the test a few weeks ago and got an 85% and will be trying again in august to see if i can increase that score...but i think i have somewhat of a chance with the 85%. best of luck to you!

Thanks for your advice!! Unfortunately I will only be allowed this one chance to take the exam, they only let you take it once a year.

Are you sure? I think it's once every six months...

check with your school, they may have older exams that you can use as practice, I used the review book and did 5 practice exams at the learning center, paid off because I was 98th percentile, composite 144 Good luck cuz we can only sit for it once every application session per year at ours as well
Definitely check with your school...if you got info from an informational meeting, you may have misunderstood. I just recently went through that myself, but it is definitely every 6 months as far as I know. Good luck to you!!!
No I'm 100% positive. I met with the director of admissions for the program. I wish I was wrong. But I feel I have plenty of time to prepare so I should do pretty good. I'm just not looking forward to the Math section, not my strongest subject at all.
That is really odd. I never heard of a school only allowing it once a year!! I thought it was an NLN thing that it was two years. But I guess the schools can make up their own rules. I'm sorry!!
Just study good, make flash cards if necessary. One of the suggestions I read is when you are taking the initial sample tests (in the NLN study guide), do it along with the examples that they give you to study from...this may help you understand how to come up with the answer on your own. Then check the answer key to see if you got it right.
Good luck!

Are there any classes that you'd recommend taking before taking the exam?
