Pregnant Nurse

Published

Hello to all nurses out there. I am currently expecting and my first day of last mentrual period was July 6, 2011, which makes me now 11 weeks of pregnancy, I believe. I went to see my nurse practitioner today and she said that I was 15 weeks pregnant and 1 day. I just want to know if anybody out there has an idea how she calculated it. I dont agree with here, looking at my last menstrual period, but I dont know how to argue that with her. Any input or suggestion will be helpful. She did listned to the baby heart beat which was 150 - 160 BPM.

hmm good question, I feel the need to look this up and expand my knowledge

Not to give medical type advice but I would moreso trust an ultrasound measurements than random date calculations.

Gestation is usually measured in one of two ways: ultrasound measurement of fetal size and Nagel's rule, based on your last period.

If your last period was July 6th, using Nagel's rule your due date would be April 13th, making you just under 11 weeks. So I'm assuming the examiner used ultrasound measurements to get to the 15 week conclusion.

But since your calculation is more than a month different, why don't you call and discuss this with your NP? She will be able to tell you why she dated you at 15 weeks and why this could be different than your period indicates.

Have you thought of asking your NP?

Maybe your last period was not a full one, and you were already 4 weeks. Why not ask the NP?? I am surprised you didn't ask when you were there.

Best wishes!!!

You have received good advice to ask your NP. Since we don't have all the information that she has, she is the best one to make this determination.
