Hey yall,
I just found out I am pregnant and a lot of patients smoke in their house. Am I able to refuse to see them if they aren't my patients? I am so early I do not want to tell my coworkers or boss yet due to a previous miscarriage. I have only been in my position for 3.5 months so too soon to switch jobs. I cannot put my baby at risk.

I would just very kindly ask the patient to refrain from smoking while your there due to having a little one on the way. Most people I think would be willing to accommodate that (I used to smoke). If not then you'd probably need to consider letting your boss know just so they can allow you refuse the visits.

Have found that I react to the smoke even when there is no smoking going on in my presence. Best to discuss the subject with your supervisor now and get a plan in place where you can avoid smoking environments. If they are reluctant to accommodate you, and some hh agency personnel would be, then it is time to start looking for a new position where you can let your needs be known from the start. Remember, that no matter how much negative feedback you may get from management or coworkers, you are not less than those who put up with smokestack environments. Your baby will thank you.

So you have to tell your coworkers or boss.
Get yourself any help you can get.
Also against smoking patients.
