Preceptor pay for scrub techs

I am trying to get preceptor pay for our scrub techs. Currently only the OR RNs get preceptor pay. I can't do my job without my scrub and what is fair is fair. If you could please respond, post what hospital and/or city you know what is true. I would greatly appreciate it. Shaomai RN

I don't want to be recognized so I'll say that I work in a level one trauma hospital in New England. Scrub techs get preceptor pay as well as the RN's in my facility. I agree that this is the fair thing to do-scrub techs do important work and it's important to recognize people for teaching.

The facility that I work at in suburban Maryland had an odd scrub preceptor policy. If I am training college students who are coming through on rotation, I get nothing. Even though the hospital regularly recruits these students and they make up the majority of the people I precept (it can be 2 - 4 days a week with these students).

If I am training a person they have hired, or a new scrub on orientation, I get $1.00 per hour even though I spent less time with them because they already are stepping up to the solo role (because they have graduated, or because they are experienced and just learning our system).

Makes me crazy, because I consider the time I spend with the students to be an investment for the hosptal as we get many of our new scrubs from these colleges. Obviously, the hospital doesn't value this I guess!

Our scrubs get the same pay as TakeTwo above, same for the nurses, $1 only for nurses hired, including externs, but not students.

Good luck
