I could really use some helpful information. I am a 32 year old student new to nursing and took a biology placement test today hoping to bypass gen. biology this semester so that I could take A&P I along with the other pre-reqs (CHEM I, PSYCH, MATH 118, ENGL I) in one semester. I understand that every program requires diff. pre-reqs. My question is (I haven't had any advising yet) what is the procees of applying for admission when you haven't completed pre-reqs? Is it best to have a good GPA along w/AP I&II or is it possible to apply before you complete your foundation courses?

You will probably have to have so many pre reqs done before you can even apply. Does the nursing program that you plan on attending go on a points system? My suggestion would be to take as many co-reqs as you can now too (thats what I am doing) because the more classes you already have the more likely you will be to get into the program. Also It will cut down on the workload that you will have during the actual nursing program. Good Luck!

You need to look into your schools policy on this. I've heard people say that A&P weren't a pre req at their school however, at my school, you need to have a&p 1, chem, math and english completed before you apply. And you must be enrolled and passing a&p 2 the spring after you apply to the program, while you are waiting your decision....
I don't know you situation but, what's your rush? It looks to me like you're taking on a lot of courses at once, and more that one science at a time. It's probably better to not cram everything into one semester and take fewer classes at a time so you can keep your GPA up which is a major deciding factor at many schools...
Just my ...
Thanks. There are actually two different schools that I am looking into with two different pre-req requirements. I spoke to an advisor today who pretty much told me what I was already thinking. I was just trying to cram (which may not be the best thing to do) as many pre-reqs so that I could apply. I think I need to slow it down a notch.

Definitely check out the school's app deadlines...I mean, if it means you have to wait another year to apply b/c you didn't take all those classes this semester then maybe it would be worth it to do so. It would be pretty tough to do, but NS is going to be pretty hard as well. I did a pretty killer semester this past Spring but I'm sooooo glad that I did it.
With that said, if you don't think you can get the grades you need to get accepted (taking them all at once), then it would be a waste of time and $$ to do it. You'd have to be very dedicated!
Good luck!
NCC is where I a now but right over in valhalla, ny wcc now has an evening/weekend program\. Then down in Yonkers at St Joseph's is the Cochran school of nursing so those seem to be my options right now....
How about you?
I am looking into Gateway, Bridgeport Hospital and also the LPN program at Whitney Tech. I am leaning towards Whitney Tech because I can't get the prereqs done in time to apply to Gateway and also because the entrance exam doesn't seem as hard. I think if I get the LPN then I can move more easily over to RN at Gateway, which would be an extra year.

I'd take the prereqs more slowly. Just make sure that you will have all of the prereqs finished in time to begin the program. Fall starts usually need to be finished in Spring (not summer), and my Spring start needs to have classes finished/grades in by Jan 15th (so Fall). The program I applied to would only look at applications with half of the prereqs finished.
My GPA wasn't very strong, so I did wait a bit longer to apply to bring my grades up.
