Pre requisite Help!!!

Ok girl, this is how I did it & I have kids as well . Im taking nutrition, Bio, micro, lifespan psych and math all this semester & I have all As with 5 weeks to go. Bio and micro almost go hand in hand. I took a basic chemistry with A&P I and did well...next semester I'm taking A&P II with the multicultural diversity, statistics & Chemistry. Taking chem & anatomy together is good because you can keep them separate. A&P is all about memorization. Good luck!

Hey, I am actually getting a majority of my pre-reqs done at JJC as well. I highly recommend that you take Dr. Nkuku for A&P if you can... he's fantastic. Easy A if you make it to class, record his lectures and pay attention. He explains the material so well, you leave class being able to explain it to other people. By far one of the best teacher's i've had. Beware though, he does not like it when you miss a test and he'll probably make it more difficult for you when you do take it, or just give you a zero.

For Micro - Take Corcoran. I'm planning on taking her in the Fall. Everyone that I know has had good things to say about her and her teaching styles.

As for what you should take together... the format you described looks like it should work out. Use ratemyprofessor.com also - makes a huge difference in who you take!

I would definitely work in getting the science classes out of the way one by one - just don't overload yourself. Balance it out... take a very difficult class with one or two easier classes.

I am close by you - I attend Lewis University in Romeoville. Anyhow, I think your schedule looks perfectly doable. You have the right idea breaking up the sciences. Personally, I found Micro to be the hardest with chemistry a close second. But everyone is different. All of the sciences are a lot of information to take in.

I took AP I with lifespan psy...Micro with statistics...AP II with Chem.

Your schedule looks smart. Basically you'll need biology before you do A&P. And you'll need strong algebra skills before you do Chemistry.

As mentioned above, ratemyprofessor is a great resource. I use chegg.com to rent my textbooks and have saved a ton of money. I always check on ratemyprofessor before buying textbooks because some teachers won't use the book. For the classes themselves it helped me to use the Dummies books (Algebra for Dummies, Chemistry for Dummies, etc.) I just borrowed them from the library.

I only have one child, but work full-time in addition to going to school. It's helped me to spend extra time on campus before and after my classes to finish my homework without interruptions. Keep up with the coursework as the semester progresses and you should do fine. I've really enjoyed being back in school. It can be difficult, but it's cool to challenge yourself in new ways, meet new people, and do something for yourself (which is difficult to do as a mom).

And a random math trick that helped me SO much in Chemistry.... if you're multiplying fractions, multiply all the numbers in the numerator then divide all the numbers in the denominator.

Soc 290 cultural diversity in America

Nurs 100 intro to nursing

bio 240 microbiology

bio 149 principles of biology

bio 250 a&p I

BIO 251 a&p II

Heal 109 principles of normal nutrition

math 090 college arithmetic (refresher)

chem 100 fundamentals of chemistry

Can anyone advise me on which classes to take together and in what order? My plans were to take them in the following order:

bio 149 with soc 290 and health 109

bio 250 with a math 090

bio 251 with a gsd course

bio 240 with a gsd course

chem 100 with nurs 100

I am a mother of four school aged children., and I have not had a science course in a very long time. This is why I do not want to take any science courses together

I want to take it slow. I need to pass all with A's. I am very determined to get my degree in nursing, failure is not an option. I was wondering is my schedule doable especially the bio 149 with soc 290 and health 109.

Also any study books or material that can help with principles of bio

I am a mother of three two under the age of 4. I took intro to bio and intro to chemistry at the same time. They are very different classes so it worked well for me. Having the chemistry done definitely helped in both a & p and micro. I took nutrition as an online class over the summer in between anatomy 1 and 2. This worked well. I would recommend anatomy 1 and chemistry before micro. Microbiology has a very strong chemistry component and is a tough class. Also topics in micro like cell division and cellular respiration are introduced in anatomy 1.

I am amazed by women like you. I do not have kids and can barely imagine the stress one ONE class with children, let alone the 5 difficult classes you're taking. How in the world do you do it and keep your sanity!?!

intro to bio

chem 100

a&p I

a&pII

micro

I just went back with 3 kids...I did Ant. 1 with lab and Chem. with lab. I usually can spend one full day a week on my chemistry (and a few short study times) when my kids are in school focusing on that. Yesterday I did a chapter in the morning. It is a good class to take along with Ant. 1 in my opinion. It will take one chapter from your anatomy for a few weeks and stretch it out. It will be much easier for you to get through. I use a lot of you tube videos when I get stuck to really learn the material. I find it works good for me. (as long as they are reliable) I think if you have to take bio go ahead and take it first. Then you should be ready to do Ant. 1 and chem. and then ant. 2. If you are really worried about it, I wouldnt suggest you take micro and ant. 2. together. I would play it by ear. I am doing a summer ant. 2 and micro in the fall alone. It hasnt been easy with kids but I find time in the mornings or late at night. Good luck.

A&P you learn all the cells, bones, muscles, nerves etc. The backbone of the entire program. A&P2 you learn how it all works together in depth.

what classes do you have left?

I still have to take general chemistry - taking it at Oakton though over the summer since they don't offer a class I can make at JJC and I work in Oaktons district so I can get the tuition discount. I also need to take Micro and Statistics. Additional courses I need for my accelerated programs include Organic chem and Patho - which i'll probably take in the spring... Patho I have to take at Oakton also because it's not offered at JJC
