Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello (: My name is Miriam , I am a pre-nursing student at my local community college and I want to know anyone's advice (nurses, students, etc) who had to take the same classes on how to balance studying microbiology, A&P 2 , and a math class.? Also I am studying for the HESI which I will be taking in approximately 2 months, just want any advice that I could get on how to balance my time better. I feel like I may not be studying as efficiently as I could, and just stressing out about everything and I haven't even started nursing school LOL! Anyways, overthinking a lot about this, which I tend to do a lot sometimes..... Also how did you nurses deal with stress in nursing school or while taking pre-requsites?

For me, to be successful in these classes, I took one core bio at a time with one or two other “easier” classes. That way I could focus most of my attention on the classes that mattered, plus where I live, we have to have near a 4.0 to get into nursing school so it was a must. The best thing that’s helped me in all of my classes has been flash cards, and just keeping a stack or 2 with me so I could study at any time of the day. And I would make sure I knew those flash cards literally forward and back before each and every exam.

Good of luck on your journey!

Thanks! Im studying for my microbiology class by making flashcards and its working well so far. How should I do that for my A&P 2 class ? How would i separate information on the flashcards for each chapter?

One mistake I made in pre-req science classes was not taking advantage of all lab time and trying to do it all on my own. I wouldn't have survived pre-reqs and nursing school (especially nursing school!) without study groups.

I became a CNA prior to nursing school, which means I was a step ahead during the first few weeks of 1st semester clinical work. I highly recommend it.

Hey @ABIGAIL321,

I feel you. I know it’s a struggle having 2 bio classes and a math class, but I know you can do it bc I also did that so I can expedite my time getting into nursing school. If I am able to get through it, you’ll also be able to do it.

With the studying habits, I found Microbiology easier so I focused on A&P 2 more. For lecture, we were allowed to do an audio recording, so I made flash cards and diagrams from my notes then listen to the audio recording to see if I missed anything; also made sure that I get to study them whenever I have the free time that way I don’t cram when it’s almost exam week. I also utilized the lab time. If I’m done with the assigned lab work, I tend to stay and study my notes/flash cards for lecture.

Time management is the key. Hope this helps. Best of luck on your classes! ?

Hey there! I took Chemistry, Anatomy 1 with Lab, and College Algebra all at the same time and managed to get an A in all of them. I do not have a job or children. Time management is the biggest thing. You have to know how to manage your time. You cannot be on your phone texting and being on social media all the time. You have to learn how to say "no" to people sometimes. I'm not saying you should be studying 24/7, but you need to devote a lot of time to your studies.

Also, find out how you learn best. Flashcards was perfect for me for Anatomy 1 Lab, but the the lecture, there was too much information, so I found using flashcards was pointless. For Anatomy lecture, I would record my professor while he was lecturing (with his permission), and then I would listen to it after school and fill in my notes with any information that I missed.

It all comes down to how you manage your time and your work ethic.

Thanks for your help! I know what you mean. I have tried so hard, I got rid of my social media and possible distractions and focused more on the classes. I made honor roll this past semester. ?
