Taking anatomy and phsiology in the fall?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

So I'm planning on taking anatomy and physiology 1 in the fall so I was wondering is there anything I can use and do to get prepared now? I bought the Kaplan anatomy flashcards that I have been going through? But is there anything else besides that I can use and do to occupy my time?

Thanks :)

I don't have any advice but I am going to take A&P 1 in the fall also. I'm going for my BSN and am just so excited to finally start on my science's. Good luck and I will be watching this post for tips. I'm going to google the Kaplan flash cards now. Thanks!

Usually if you go to your school book store they will have these laminated charts. But you can find them anywhere. They are done by Barcharts Quick study. I think even Wal-Mart has them.

Start studying the eye and muscles those were the hardest to memorize for me. Also check to see what book your school will use and rent it a lil earlier. Watch youtube videos some schools have videos that help. Good Luck!!!

I'm taking A&P I in the fall also! That'll be my fourth science pre-req. Any tips/study sources will be helpful to me. I'll be checking for them!

Hi guys! I'm a current nursing student, and I took A&P a few years ago. (Just lurking around this forum...totally rad Friday night.) I second Meeh619's recommendation to start studying muscles. You will likely have to memorize a TON of muscles all over the body, including their origin, insertion, action, etc. I would recommend making flashcards for the muscles. You might even be able to find some online. If you have access to your class's syllabus, you could also get your textbook early and get a head start on the reading.

Best study tip ever, I got it halfway through the semester: Take pictures of the models you will be tested on, print them, get clear sheets you can write on with a dry erase, and put the clear plastic over the pictures and label your butt off!!!

Also, I highly recommend the coloring book.

I rarely used my flash cards.

Also I paid to have the speed anatomy apps on my phone and tablet. When I would have to wait anywhere, instead if Facebook or Candy Crush I was speed labeling.

You are going to rock this class if you are already preparing! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Great advice. I am totally going to do this in the fall. Thank you.

I know from taking A&P and retaking it after getting B's lol that the best thing you can do is dedicate time. It can be overwhelming to try and get generic flash cards and laminated study guides because every professor focuses on something different. I have taken it at two different universities and they where completely different in what I learned. There is a lot more out there than what you will actually need to know for class so dont focus on to much outside of the class before you start. If you can look at your schools website or google you class number and professor you might be able to find there syllabus and that will be a good guideline to what you should focus on if you want to get a head start!

The best way to prepare for A&P is to study A&P.

If you havent taken biology 101 or its been a while since you took it in highschool, I would review some real basic organic chemistry and the basics of cellular structure and phsyiology. It helps to be familiar with these things because your professor might take it for granted that everyone is already familiar with them.

Aside from that A&P was mostly just lots of memorization. I think the best thing to do is buy your textbook early and read through it. You might not absorb every thing and know what is important to know and what isnt, but at least when you start the class you will have a pretty good idea what to expect and what you found confusing.

I thought A&P was surprisingly easy, but your mileage may vary. I had a great deal of EMS education prior to taking it and had taken biology 101 just prior to the class, so its hard to say how much of a difference that made. Some people found the class hard and spent an insane amount of time studying for it.
