Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone applied to the Samuel Merritt (ELMSN: Case Management) program at the Sacramento campus?

I applied and received an invitation for the interview and essay on Sept. 27th. I'm nervous, but exited for the opportunity as well.

Good luck to all!

Just got my acceptance email today y'all! I'm excited to meet everyone!!

Yay! Congrats!

Does anyone know how to make Facebook groups? We can start getting to know each other or just a good link for when we are in the program!

Woo hoo! Congratulations Sr03401!!! :)

Did anyone take Interpersonal Communication online?

I did, where are you located? I took mine through Folsom Lake College and it was a breeze

I live in Georgia right now ! I think I found a quick online course to take I just need to verify it

Hey! Is anyone going to the career fair this weekend?

ELMSN Nurse2B,

Hey! WIll you be at the career fair this weekend?

Hi everyone! Congrats to those that got accepted!!! Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on the application process for SMU? Thank you so much in advance! :D

Hi!

I think my biggest advise would be to make sure you have a good HESI score ( 80 or above is advised but they seem to like above 85-90). During the application process you'll need a few letters of recommendation and to write a couple of short essays about yourself. Nothing too major :) I applied July 1 and I got an interview at the end of September, so it does take a while and I heard that I was accepted a few days later. The waiting game is draining! I was checking my email everyday!

For me, I felt like it was important to have health care experience, as that was a question they asked me about during my interview. They also asked me why I wanted to be a nurse, and specifically, why I wanted to be a case manager. After the interview, you have to write a very basic paper, they want to just know that you can make a intro, conclusion and tie all of your thoughts together. ( this is what my interviewer told me before I wrote mine)

Best of luck to you!!

Hi! I agree with LadyBugg88! I think if you have certain strong areas you will be fine as long as they are balanced. Personally I don't think my GPA (3.07) was very competitive and when I applied I had not finished the pre reqs A&P and Nutrition. I do think my statement of purpose and my recommendations were very strong so I think that balanced me out! Also I think my HESI score boosted my chances! I didn't specifically have Healthcare experience, but I volunteered and was very involved on my undergrad campus so I think that helped because I was asked about those things in my interview! Basically I think if you show them you're a well rounded student you'll do fine ! Don't worry to much about being the "perfect" applicant.

I totally agree, I was not a straight A Student. I just talked to the woman who interviewed me about my desire to be a nurse and what I wanted to accomplish as a nurse. My letters of rec were strong and so were my essays so I think they helped them overlook some of my past grades!
