Samuel Merritt (ELMSN: Case Management), Spring 2018

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone applied to the Samuel Merritt (ELMSN: Case Management) program at the Sacramento campus?

I applied and received an invitation for the interview and essay on Sept. 27th. I'm nervous, but exited for the opportunity as well.

Good luck to all!

Hi ElMSN Nurse2b! I applied to the ELMSN - Case Management program offered at Samuel Merritt as well. My interview is on October 3rd and I'm really nervous! Did you apply to other programs?

Hello aspiringnurse02,

I was encouraged to apply to multiple programs at Samuel Merritt but I couldn't bring myself to do so. I decided to put all my chips into the program that I really want to get into. I figured if I don't get in, then I'll have to reevaluate what my nursing school goal is. How about you?

I was surprised that the interview includes a 4-5 page essay. I think that's the part that is making me nervous because of not knowing what the topic is. However, my plan is to study the videos that were provided about Case Management.

I'm surprised to hear that there is a direct-entry program offering a specialization in case management. Every healthcare employer I've ever known has required multiple years of clinical nursing experience in order to be considered qualified for case management positions. What is the school telling you about your employment prospects?

I applied to the ELMSN-CM and ABSN programs offered in Sacramento. If I get into the ABSN program & not the ELMSN-CM program, I plan on applying to a MSN-CM program once I graduate.

The written component also makes me nervous. I don't know what to expect or how to prepare for it. Luckily, it's untimed. Do you have any idea what questions may be asked during the interview?

Hello elkpark! The minimum requirement to be considered for a case management position is two years as a bedside nurse. According to Samuel Merritt's website, "some graduates are finding they transition to case management within the first year, or even earlier".

I started to apply to both programs as well. Samuel Merritt actually recommends that you apply to multiple programs because of the programs being so competitive.

I'm not sure what kind of questions are going to be asked during the interview. I'm preparing based on the program, functions of a case manager and my educational and professional qualifications. I'm wondering if the CM interview is in individual or group? I know the FNP is group, but I'm thinking it might be individual for the CM.

The feedback I received on the ELMSN CM program is that students have job offers before graduating. However, I'm not sure if that is specifically in a hospital setting. You qualify to take the NCLEX after the 4th semester.

That's a great plan! I'm definitely going to prepare by going over the videos & the information on the website. The email I received stated the interview will be individual :)

Hey y'all! I also applied to the ELMSN Case Management program and my interview in October 3! I am definitely nervous about the 4-5 page essay not knowing the topic! I also applied for UC Davis Entry level program, California Baptist University, UAB Advanced Masters in Nursing Practice, and I am applying for Seattle University Advanced Practice Nursing Immersion program for non nurses ! Good luck everyone on interviews I am extremely excited !

Hi Sr03401! Good luck with your interview! What time does yours start? We might run into each other :)

Best of luck with your interview ElMSN Nurse2b!
