Is anyone else taking this class?

Specializes in Medical-Surgical, Hemodialysis.

I just finished Medical Terminology this last semester. It wasn't a pre-req for me either, but my instructor recommended it. :D

Specializes in Critical care, Pediatris & Geriatrics.

I took this class last semester, and it was a pre-req...I recommend everyone taking it, I 've learned alot & think it will help me in my nursing program. Its pretty interesting also..

Good Luck, Nurse2b_amy

I took it because it was a pre-req of the school I transfered to. I think it would have helped me prior to A+P.

I am taking Medical Terminology next semester. It is my last pre-requisite before I apply. Im thinking that it won't be too hard because I am a hospital pharmacy technician now and I have seen most of the terminology at some point or another

Specializes in Med/Surg <1; Epic Certified <1.

I think it's a great idea....while I had it over 20 years ago, there's some things that sounded familiar going through my first semester and a lot more that was "Latin" to me....I don't think there's any way you will regret it and when the instructors start talking in medical terms, you'll be WAY ahead of the game for those who are new to the lingo!! It will also save you time when you get to the part of the course where you are required to learn/know things like combining forms, prefixes, etc.

Best wishes!!

I took this class last year, and it helped me a lot with the human biology class that I took the next semester. This was one of the best classes that I took, so I highly recommend it. :)

I am taking the basic med term class. It's 2.5 credits vs the 4 credit med term class.

I am taking it in the packet format and I have already received my packet. It looks simple enough and I can't wait to start!

Neither class is a prereq but I wanted to take it to get a headstart. Also, I needed a class to round out my schedule to stay full time and this was it.

It is not a requirement at my school either but I took it anyway and I'm so glad that I did. It has really given me a leg up on most of the other students in my nursing program. While they struggle learning the terminology I can focus on the subject at hand. You have made a great choice.

Thanks for all the replies. I had another nurse tell me today that it should still be a requirement to get into the program. It was when she went through it at the same school.

Specializes in CNA, RN Student.
Is anyone else taking this class? I decided this morning to defintely take it. They took it out of the pre-requisites, but I am taking it anyway.

I would have taken this class if my school offered it! I think it should be a pre-req as I found that people who were familiar with medical terminology did better in my microbiology and even a&p classes. I bought a book and also have the Mosby's Program that has the medical terminology on it.

Sounds awesome.

Specializes in LTC/Skilled Care/Rehab.

I was thinking about taking Medical Terminology in Spanish (it is offered at the college by my house). I know a little bit of Spanish (I should since I took about 3 years of it), but the medical terminology is hard for me. I might take it next summer if they offer it over the summer.
