I need to drop a class! Help me decide please.

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

In my enthisiasm to start my new career I have bitten off more than I can chew. I am a single mother with a full time job. I am taking my pre-requisites on the weekends. I got departmental permssion to take A&P1 and Chem at the same time. I take A&P1 on Sat and Chem on Sun.

So far I am keeping up with the reading and I haven't had a test yet. My first test in both classes is next weekend. Only thing is that I am SO TIRED...I skipped chem this weekend because I am exhausted. I don't see how I can make it like this for the rest of the semester. I asked my bf to give me a little advice and he told me that I do have a super woman complex. I agree, I do try to push myself a bit. He said that since I already have a degree and a decent job that there is no rush to finish nursing school. I dislike my current job and want to move on as quickly as possible but I realize that I might end up getting a bad grade if I continue on like this.

I don't know if I should drop the chem since it is a pre-requsite for the A&P1 but I like the A&P1 class better. I like the professor and I just find Bio more interesting than chem.

What would you do?

I would drop the A&P1 since the Chem is the prerequisite. That makes the most sense to me. It really doesn't matter which one you like better..what matters is what you have to do first. Good luck. :)

Sigh I hate to do it because I love my A&P class but it is the right thing to do. Thanks. I hope I can get at least a partial refund.

I understand the love for the A&P class, but the material will make so much more sense if you have that Chem background. I also understand trying to do it all, but you will be better off in the long run if you take things a little slower. You will learn more in each course, and have a little time to yourself to keep you sane!

Tab :wink2:

I did it. I did get most of my money back even though it's the 3rd week of class. I just wasn't looking forward to studying for both tests which were are scheduled for sat and sun. I took chem before but it was for liberal arts not health and it was more than 5 years ago...so I am a bit rusty. Well, at least now I will have my Sats off and I can really focus on getting that A I want.

Excellent. Now go study. :)

That was a difficult choice for you to make...but I think it'll work out best for you in the long run.

What would you do?

Wow, you do have a busy schedule!

I took my A&P II the same time as my General Chemistry during the 8 week summer semester and I thought that was tough! This is when I wasn't working full time, no kids, no bf. Your plate is full.

Although, even when things smoothed out for me and no matter how full my schedule was at school it still felt full.

However, you really do have a full schedule.

I don't really see why the Chem is a pre-req for the A&P I though?

Darn, I would have suggested keeping the class you like the most so you can enjoy it and enjoy the success of doing well. I think you are making a good choice to cut back.

Do you have classmates that are also in both classes? How do they feel about it?

Best,

Gen
