How many Nursing schools did you apply to?

Right now, I'm in a pre-nursing program. My first semester I finished with a 3.2 GPA. I know, that's not the greatest and I'm kicking myself. Transitioning from high school to college was a hard adjustment for me. This semester, though, I finished with a 3.9 GPA! I'm so proud of myself! :w00t:That equals an overall GPA of about 3.5 for my first year. Hopefully, I can keep up the good grades for another year. I'm nervous about applying to schools. My dream school is UNMC in Omaha, NE. Only a hundred or so are accepted. In order to be eligible for UNMC, you must have at least a 3.0 and to be competitive you need a 3.5 or higher. I'm thinking I don't have much of a chance with the grades I have now. In hopes of getting accepted to at least one, I'm planning on applying to at 3+ schools. How many would you suggest I apply with a 3.5 GPA (3.5 is my worst case scenario)? How many did you apply to? What do you think my chance of getting into UNMC is? or any other school for that matter. And if you don't mind sharing, what was your GPA?

So far, I've only applied to 1 school (Fresno State) because it was the only school that would let me apply for Fall 2012 with prereq courses still in progress. I have an overall GPA of 3.66 and a prereq GPA of 4.0. Supposedly, applicnt will know if they got in by early July...

Oh by the way, is it overall GPA that your school looks at? Where I live in CA, a lot of nearby schools care more about prereq GPA.

Not yet. They are still waiting for my early grade reports for the 2 classes I just completed. I hope to hear something soon! I'm going crazy waiting! LOL

I applied to 1 school. I got my acceptance letter today for the ASN program.

My school uses a point system. They have 4 pre-req classes (A&P 1 and 2, English, and Psych 101) that if you get all A's in is worth 90 points and then your TEAS score is worth up to another 100 points.

One school, one acceptance. Location was a big issue with me. I didn't want to have to drive too far during the winter - rain, snow, sleet. The school has been great so far, and it meets my needs. Its got a good reputation, high nclex pass rate, high student retention, and many students graduate and find work.

I'd say 3-5 ain't bad. 3.5 is not bad. You are bound to get into one of them. keep at it. :)

I applied to two and was thankfully accepted to both. I applied to a BSN program that based their decision on GPA and an interview. This was my first choice school. I also applied to an ASN program that bases their decision strictly on a point system. This was my backup incase I totally screwed up my interview! :-)

You should keep your head up because I think you have a very good chance of getting accepted. You still have another year to bring your GPA even higher and a 3.5 is not bad at all. They will also look at the fact that your grades have improved over time.

As for how many to apply to, I would apply to any program you would be willing to attend. It doesn't hurt to apply.

I applied to only 2 schools here in central California, 1 ASN and a BSN. I was accepted to the BSN and my overall gpa was 3.8. Every school is different but apply to all the schools that you qualify for. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. I should've applied to more than 2 schools but luckily I got accepted.
