Career Change

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I have wanted to be a nurse for as long as I can remember. I've posted time and time again on allnurses how this is it, I'm finally going to make it happen, yet always change my mind at the last moment. I chicken out.

So, here I am again, lamenting over not having pursued this and considering it once more.

Now - here's the tricky part. I have a job that I love currently. I finally was given a managerial position that I had been wanting for a long time. However, nursing is my dream and probably the only thing I would give up my current job to do.

So, how do I go about this? I work until 5:30 every day. Pre-reqs at my local cc start at that time or earlier. I don't think, given my position, that it would be appropriate to leave early on class days to pursue something else. But maybe I'm overthinking it? I don't want to risk my current job to pursue this dream, but don't want to trash my dream because of my current job.

Anyone? Advice?

I am a social worker (have been for 15 years), and was in the same boat as you. I am starting my first semeater of nursing school this fall, whoohoo! First of all, is there any community college (maybe not the closest to you) that offer any of the classes on-line? I needed psych., nutrition and sociology, which I took on line. I also took the chem and anatomy class on line and the local community college had the labs on the weekend. Are there any weekend classes?? I gave up my nights and weekends for 3 years to complete my pre-req's. Now I am still a full time social worker, and will start an evening weekend nursing program in the fall. I also love my job (I am a pediatric social worker in a medical specialty clinic), but I love nursing even more. If you keep thinking about it, Go for it!!

Feel free to inbox me and ask me ANY questions!!! Hope this helps!!

I did online classes myself when I had a job. Then got laid off and the state let me collect unemployment cause I was working towards a new career!
