Bummer .. just realized I missed the course reg. deadline ..

for my online Nutrition course ... sigh .... well ... I have a call into them to see if they will still let me start Aug. 1 but I suppose it really doesn't matter in the long run as they will send my materials as soon as the registrar processes my request anyway so if I get it in I can start earlier. I was waiting until I got enough $$ to register for that one course and finally managed to save enough. Plus Aug. 1 would have been the perfect timing as it wouldn't interfere with my other course midterms, etc. as much.

Ah well guess it's ok but I'm feeling bummed right now!

Thanks for listening. Rats, I wish I had read about the deadline before but the course registration kept putting me in a queue anyway so .. oh well, I got confused. I'm just rambling now lol.

Don't be bumberd. Get everything together for the next round and be the first to submit everything. Meanwhile you can do some community work or just enjoy it :)

Well, at least I'm registered for Sept. 1 now officially! They never called back but I just went ahead and paid online, etc. Fun fun!

Are you taking it through Athabasca? Is it online or just by distance?

Dawn

Yes, I'm taking it through Athabasca! Honestly, I'm not sure how the course materials are delivered .. they just said they would be "sent" to me ... I am doing "individualized study" or something like that. I guess I'll know more in a few weeks! Really the only thing I do know (aside from reading the course outline online) is that our faculty advisor will supervise for tests if we arrange it. lol wow, I know so much about what I'm doing, hey?

You should be getting them soon, they sent them out almost right away. You will get a CD ROM, a text book w/ another CD ROM, a small (11 pages) booklet on using the food guide, an assignment booklet, a study guide and a student manual.

You are assigned a tutor, who is responsible to help you complete the course successfully. There is one major assignment and two examinations.

The assignment is 2 parts and you start it after you are done unit 3 and can "hand it in" any time up to your contract date. The assignment is worth 20% of your final grade. You must get at least 60% on the assignment to pass the course.

The midterm exam is worth 35% of your final grade and covers all material in Units 1-8. The final exam is worth 45% of your final grade and covers the entire course. Both exams are "closed book" exam and may contain any combo of multiple-choice, short answer, and essay-type questions. You have 2 hours to write the mid-term and 3 hours to write the final exam. There is no minimum required passing grade for the midterm, but if you achieve less than 55%, you may write a supplemental exam. You will be credited with the higher of the 2 marks. The passing grade for the final exam is 55% and if you do not achieve this you must write a supplemental exam. There is a fee for supplemental exams.

To achieve credit for the course you must have a final grade of at least 60 %.

That is all I can think of, but if you have anymore questions I might be able to answer them.

All I knew was what is written on the sheet we got at registration/orientation and what I looked up online but maybe I didn't go that far! I hope you get to take it by September as well!! I'll be thinking positive thoughts for your letter of permission!

Talk soon ......
