Thank you posting this. We all have self doubt, the voice in all of our heads that tell us that we aren't smart enough or good enough to do certain things. I am 37 years old now and I have procrastinated for years regarding going to nursing school. I have an appointment today at 1 pm at a school that offers an evening and weekend LPN program. I have to work full time during the day and go to school in the evening. I have put my dream on the back burner for far too long now. The only person that can change your destiny is you.

I have my BSN and I will say this. Number 1. HARD WORKER is what you need to be for success as a nurse. "smart" is a very vague word. If you work hard, do not complain, are reliable and show up to work on time, and care about the patients best interest...then you have it.

You are so right about that post! I was in the "gifted" programs when I was young, scored high on standardized tests, math comes easily to me, and have always been considered to be "smart" (especially by my parents, haha). I struggled just as much as every other student when I was in nursing school, probably more than a lot of others who might have had lower standardized test scores than I did.

While you certainly can't be flat-out stupid and be a nurse, I don't think that all the things that would typically label someone as "smart" come into play at all.

I agree I'm not book smart at all but my burning passion since childhood to be a nurse is stronger than anything thing else I think that will stop me

Thank you for this inspiring message. I am starting school in September and I am nervous because I am one that is hard on myself and at registration after hearing how hard school will be, I was ready to throw in the towel but like you said,"if this is something I want I must go for it". And I plan to do just that. Thanks again for this message.
