A&P I Spring 2007 Semster - Welcome!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I will be taking A&P I next semester when I come back from Christmas break for the Spring 2007 semester. I didn't know if someone was going to start a group or not, so I thought I would create a thread to find those of us who have been "getting our feet wet" and are going to start into the fun stuff during the Spring 2007 semester. I look forward to seeing who all will be feeling my pain!

Hey, I was wondering what everybody is covering in their Anatomy class this semster. I'm curious to see if what we cover is similar.

So far we have covered:

Test 1:

Introduction to Anatomy(Body Regions, Anatomy vs. Physiology, Homeostasis, and Levels of Organization), Chemistry, and Cellular Structure

Test 2:

Metabolism, DNA Replication, Protein Synthesis, and Tissues.

Test 3: We are preparing for this test now.

Integumentary System and Skeletal System

Test 4:

Nervous System (Hardest test of the semster  )

Test 5:

The Senses and Endocrine System

We are following the same structure, only difference is, we just began the nervous system. As for the integumentary system, there will be no lecture, we have to do the chapter on our own and give a report which is due after spring break. Then after spring break we will be dissecting a brain and taking the nervous system test.

This looks about the same as my lecture exam schedule (test two is tomorrow!).

Good Luck on your test! I'm studying for Test 3 now, over spring break. :o

This is exactly what I am studying!

im getting ready to take the lab test over bones. and i was wondering if anyone could give me some good study tips on how to remember all of them and to remember how to spell all of them correctly??

Specializes in OR.

my class (it's an online class) has been exchanging all kinds of mnemonics on an online message board. i'm finding it's somewhat helpful (e.g., the radius is radial), but for me the best approach continues to be: take a postcard and use it to drill the diagrams in the textbook; then use an online site (usually i just use the web site associated with my textbook) to test myself with labeling exercises.

hope that helps a little.

Let's see if I can help. I know the best way I memorize is not flash cards but relationship. It sticks with you much longer. What I mean is I take a specific word and relate it together with something else. For example, yesterday I was studying cranial nerves, and here are a couple of the relationships I made.

Eg: Facial nerve is #7. I know that 7 is considered "the perfect number", so I relate the two: "I would love to have a perfect (7) face (facial nerve)"

If some seem too crazy to relate, they aren't.

Eg: Vestibulocochlear is #8. So I think: "I ate (8) standing up (vestibulo) and could hear (cochlear) myself eating.

Eg: Vagus is #10. "There are many girls in "Vegas" who are perfect 10's."

Etc. Etc.

Make your own up. It's fun. Maybe you think I'm strange, but it works for me. Hope it helps.

Today was our first day back after spring break. We dissected a sheep's brain. :) I also took my nervous system test. I received a 100% We also had a 6 point essay. For the essay, she gave us a scenerio: Mrs X was at a construction site and a heavy object fell on her head. She went to the hospital and according to her assesment, she was alert and coherent, her vision was normal, and she was able to touch her nose from standing. Her breathing, BP, and pulse were normal. Which parts of her brain were not affected and why?

Anyway, I studied my butt off during my break. :uhoh3: How was everyone's break? Hope it was great.

Hey everyone. How is everybody's classes going now? I just had my test 3 in my class and I think it was the hardest test of the semster. I don't know there is just something about the bones that don't interest me as much as everything else. Now on to the Nervous System!

I'm taking an accelerated A&P I and II, each lasting 8 weeks instead of 16. We finished A&P 1 just before our Spring Break (Mar. 8th). We meet two days a week for 5-6 hours each day. It's really surprising what you can learn only going to class 16 times.

Our schedule for A&P 1 was:

Test 1 - Human Body (BIO review basically) Tissues, and The Integumentary System

Test 2 - Bones and Skeletal Tissue, The Axial/Appendicular Skeleton, and Joints

Test 3 - Muscles/Muscular Tissue, and The Muscular System

Test 4 - Nervous System and Nervous Tissue, The CNS, PNS, and ANS.

Specializes in Cardiothoracic.

Just took our forth test in my anatomy class on the nervous system! I know I missed a lot of questions on the autonomic nervous system. Oh well! on to the next test! Yikes!
