Hi all,
I am a current pre-nursing student at Laguardia CC, I applied for candidacy for this coming fall 2010 but unfortunately I didn't got the spot for the clinical phase of the program. Now I really feel so miserable for not getting into the program and really need a lot of advice from people who have the same experience as I do. I'm thinking of moving to another CUNY school like maybe BMCC 'coz I saw at the website that BMCC's key courses are english 101, psych 101, math for health science, and anatomy and physiology 1. I have math dosage as the descriptive title, is it the same with the math for health science? I have an A on all of them except for my anatomy & physio 1. But I got a B on some of the pre-reqs English 102, Chemistry and microbiology which are the classes that I took in the Philippines and was given credit by the school. I'm already done with all my pre-reqs, all the classes I have left are for clinicals. What are the chances of me getting into BMCC's nursing program? Will they have me retake my classes that has B's on it for me to get a higher GPA? my current GPA is 3.66, I really doubt I can't get into their program. Also I'm thinking of moving to Beth Israel, but yeah it's quite expensive since its a private school. But with my chances, I'm not sure if I'm right but I think my chances of getting into the nursing program is higher in a private school than in another Cuny school. Any advise will be highly appreciated.

Hi Marcee,
If you have As on Eng100, Psy100 and Math for health Science, then retake AP1 at BMCC and make sure you'll get an A on that to be able to get into the morning program. Unfortunately, if you take AP1 this coming fall, then it's not guaranteed that you will be able to get into the Spring 2010 program because you usually have to wait one semester after finishing prereqs to be able to apply. They accept students (who already finished their prereqs) for the Spring program during October.
This waiting is a lot of hassle for many students and might not work for you. You are right that chances are higher getting into a private school than in CUNY.
Best Regards,
Doris

I attend a CUNY ( Lehman ) and I can tell you that nothing is garanteed. Apply to both private and public colleges. I will be beginning clinicals in the Spring at a private university and I am just staying at Lehman in order finish prereqs on the cheap. Do not put your eggs in one basket. Apply to both private and public programs. You should be able to get some sort of financial aid.

use the system wisely!! Apply to Beth Israel and BMCC and apply for grants. google scholarships for nursing students you must come up with something. Don't let finances stop you from applying to a private school. Goodluck!
