Good afternoon,
I am presently working as an engineer for a non-profit in Alexandria, VA. I plan to go to nursing school once my husband graduates from medical school (spring 2013), however I really would like to get involved in nursing as much as I can before that time. I have pre-requisites to finish up prior to applying to an accelerated BSN program, however I would love to get involved in research, nursing article reviewer/editor, etc - things that I can do from my home in the evening when I'm not at my full time job. Does anyone have any thoughts? This would be all volunteering, I'm not expecting to get paid (although that would be amazing if I did - school is not cheap and this would help a ton down the road!). I just want to see what I can do to move the field of nursing forward even though I'm not technically in the field yet :-)
Thank you so much for any advice you can offer!

I think to get involved in research in nursing you would have to be a nurse and to edit nursing articles for anything other than grammar and spelling you would have to be a nurse. Maybe become a volunteer at a hospital or nursing home. I'm not sure what you are looking for....:)
Thanks Esme12. Actually, I am in the process of volunteering with a local hospital. My thought was that I could do some literature searches or possibly some case studies from home to help other nurses that are doing research. I really just want to make sure that I am using my time the most wisely for the next 2 years prior to applying to school. its hard to sit around not doing much when you know what it is you want to start studying and getting closer to the career you really want :-) Thanks for the note.
case studies require nursing knowledge for the most part but keep trying.....look at your SO's books. cruise the site here we talk about alot of things. go into the speciality sections...good luck!
