Pre Nursing Jobs?

Published

Are there any jobs that I can get in a hospital without any experience? I know if things like the CNA, etc. But is there anything that I can do just by walking in without any kind of training?

TIA!

You could try patient transportation, customer service, sterile processing aide, patient sitter, or even volunteerng ...etc.

None of those jobs really requires any clinical experience in my state, Virginia.

Good luck.

I'm a clerk and had no previous healthcare experience. It doesn't pay much but it's easy and fun.

I worked as a clinic assistance or receptionist without experience. I was able to see nurses in a clinic setting, although most of those positions require you to work full-time.

Oh, I work part time - 12 hour shifts on Sat and Sunday nights.

hi tia,

i am located in california, and am attending an accelerated lvn program. my mom who has been an rn for 25+ years, has told me that a few months into my program i can be a patient sitter, which pays a pretty decent wage. if you are going to school and maybe have some clinical experience, you can try that out? good luck!

Thanks y'all!

Sorry for the late response (and reviving an "old" topic) - "IKE" caught me this weekend, so I've been without electricity! I want to ask another question that 'waiting2getin' mentioned, do any of the above jobs have a really flexible schedule? I'm not looking for the money, just the experience... which kinda takes me back to volunteering. No problem... so what kinda things could I do then that isn't much "grunt work"? (shadowing would happen whether I have a paying job or not, so we don't have to cover that)

Thanks again! :)

well i'm trying to volunteer at the children's hospital around my way, and from the info meeting i attended monday, it's a GRRREAT way to get some experience!!!

some jobs call for a lot, and others don't call for as much but there are a lot for you to choose from. i'm trying to be a nursery nanny ( i want to work in either the NICU or the well-baby nursery) and all i'll really be doing is rocking, nursing, and cleaning the babies, and on the downtime i'll be watching the nurses... another plus is that it's only one day a week, 3 hours a day for all college students, so you might want to research some hospital volunteer programs ;)

I'm trying to get into a volunteer program, too.

I looked for some jobs this summer hoping that I could get some experience in the hospital, but everywhere I went to said that you have to have experience or be past your first semester of nursing school (I don't start until next fall). I was really hoping to be able to get in the hospital at least to see what it's like, but no luck with a job

Now that school started again, I am trying to start volunteering. I have heard that some hospitals have "Cuddler programs" where they let volunteers into the NICU and nursery to help with the babies (probably similar to your "Nursery Nanny" - iheartbabies) and I would LOVE to do that:heartbeat But I don't know if the hospital I am trying to get into has one of those.

I emailed the volunteer coordinator earlier this week, but I haven't heard back yet. I am really no liking waiting because I would like to get the process started as soon as possible. But, oh well...waiting it is.

I hope you have more luck than I did, Mmmm Gas.

haha, i don't really think this dude's name is tia. ;)

tia = thanks in advance. :chuckle

Specializes in 2 years as CNA.

I know that several of the girls in my pre-req classes work as unit secretaries. Now granted they had office experience but no medical experience. You can maybe try that route. I am thinking about doing some volunteer work myself. I worked as a CNA for two years and hated it so I know that is not for me! Good luck!

I am in a program to become a unit secretary. In this area, you can take a 8 week training program. It includes medical terminology so that you can do transcription.
