PRC confirms leakage in nursing exam

Published

The Professional Regulation Commission confirmed Thursday that test questions in the nursing board examination last month have been leaked, ABS-CBN News learned.

A PRC fact-finding committee tasked to probe the leakage also said that the leakage during the test from June 11-12 was traced to two members of the Board of Nursing. The committee recommended the filing of administrative charges against the two.

The committee, however, did not identify the board officials. They were earlier directed by the board to inhibit themselves from the processing and release of the results pending the investigation.

"This leakage irregularity shall be referred to the National Bureau of Investigation for its own investigation and determination of all persons and parties involved and their criminal prosecution under the law," the fact-finding body said.

The report was signed by Leonor Tripon-Rosero, chairwoman, and commissioners Avelina de la Rea and Renato Valdecantos.

Talk and news reports of the test leakage came out after an examinee, who declined to identify herself, said that a review center in Baguio City handed out test questions that would appear in the exam.

The PRC earlier denied the rumors, saying that the examination system has been improved to prevent leakages.

The exam results are expected to be released next week.

I think the reason why PRC has not revealed the 2 culprits is the fact that admittance of a leakage is already a big blow to their credibility. Giving the 2 BON member identities would cause more clamor, and so PRC went for the middle way, just right to admit and at the same time be to prevent more damage and manage cleanup more discreetly.

I sympathize for the examinees, after that long, long wait... I could imagine the frustration. And even greater frustration should PRC declare a re-take.

At first, I was also skeptical about the news, being aware that this news might just be media hype or propaganda between competing review centers. Since the latest press release of PRC today, the leakage was confirmed. So, to all concerned, let's just pray and hope for the best.

Regarding how this might affect migration, I don't think it will have a significant effect. The NCLEX, for example, is done and facilitated in the U.S., not in the Philippines... so it's safe to say that it's foolproof. And so, I think that the NCSBN would not be so concerned if we have a circus in PRC, just as long as we pass the NCLEX, as long as we pass THEIR standard. Of course, there's the probability that the PRC registration will be questioned during eligibility evaluation, but still, you got your Transcript and other credentials.

As I have stated before, the burden should be on the PRC and/or BON, not the examinees...As far as the examinees are concerned, in the conduct of the exams/as the exams were being conducted, there are proctors who safeguard the examination as it happens in the different exam sites...Now, if it was prc or bon who made a lapse in their judgment(their own personal fault), then let be them be the one to carry the burden of this leakage issue...It is unfair if the examinees will be made to take the exams again...PRC and BON should not wash their hands clean with this mess, instead, they should take responsibility because this leakage could have been prevented if they had INTEGRITY, DISCIPLINE, AND HONESTY...Students have no control of this leakage, but the PRC/BON themselves...

The regulation of qualified nurses to practice nursing in our country is in the hands of the PRC and BON...

I agree. One option would be to trace the questions that leaked and nullify them in the final counting. That way the examinees won't have to take the exam again. I think that's fair enough.

yeah........ its the PRC and BON's fault. it should be their obligation to investigate the leakaging, and it should be within their authority to find out those person who received those leaks. its unfair for students like us who havent reviewed under those centers who distributed those leakages, And even didnt seen any of those leakages from any friends. The exam is Dammmmmmmmm easy except part 3, how unfair had it been to have such leakage for a very easy exam for those who did take part to study well. I suppose that the exam should not be repeated again. Well Im very much truthful in telling each and everyone that i didnt receive any leakage, but for those who really wanted to repeat the exam. GOOD LUCK. WIshing that 2nd time around, no leakge would ever happen again.

Again, this thread is being closed as well until there is official word as to what is going to be done.

Complaining about this and that only makes you look bad and does nothing to change the outcome. Only harder for you to find a decent position, if you choose to work in the US.
