PRC confirms leakage in nursing exam

Published

The Professional Regulation Commission confirmed Thursday that test questions in the nursing board examination last month have been leaked, ABS-CBN News learned.

A PRC fact-finding committee tasked to probe the leakage also said that the leakage during the test from June 11-12 was traced to two members of the Board of Nursing. The committee recommended the filing of administrative charges against the two.

The committee, however, did not identify the board officials. They were earlier directed by the board to inhibit themselves from the processing and release of the results pending the investigation.

"This leakage irregularity shall be referred to the National Bureau of Investigation for its own investigation and determination of all persons and parties involved and their criminal prosecution under the law," the fact-finding body said.

The report was signed by Leonor Tripon-Rosero, chairwoman, and commissioners Avelina de la Rea and Renato Valdecantos.

Talk and news reports of the test leakage came out after an examinee, who declined to identify herself, said that a review center in Baguio City handed out test questions that would appear in the exam.

The PRC earlier denied the rumors, saying that the examination system has been improved to prevent leakages.

The exam results are expected to be released next week.

there's an article that just came out this morning saying that a re-take is "an option" according to the PRC chairperson...

well if they releqase a result would you think those who failed will not flood at PRC for unfair and dishonest product. i bet for fair retake is the best option at this time. hahahaha it seems that the exam was a dishonesty competency base!!!!!

yup i agree... retake is the best option.. coz if they already release the result then if they found out that they failed, they will go to PRC to complain also.. right.. hehe... so the best option is retake.. :nurse::smiley_ab

To PRC:

Please don't keep secrets. We need the names of those two culprits. They are a disgrace to the Filipino people! They have caused us humiliation,so why keep their names from us.Publish their names because they deserve to be shamed and ridiculed more than us,who in our own small way, have been trying our very best to gain and retain the respect, trust, and confidence of a lot of people especially our foreigner friends and colleagues..The repercussions of what they did will reverberate throughout the world.More so,those review centers involved will have to be sanctioned as well. All nurses involved in these scam do not deserve to be retained as members of the profession we dearly love and respect.Their licence must all be revoked.Never again will they be allowed to set foot on anything about Nursing.

perhaps, its has been depressing to hear that one option the prc had come out with, is letting all of us repeat the examination. a number among our batch who took the nle this june wanted that we all repeat the examination, but how about those who didnt take part or havent received any leakages instead did his/her best during the examination? i suggest, that the prc head should confront the 2 bon and ask them where did each of them distributed their morificecripts. then if the so-called review center and school has been found guilty of receiving the leakages, the nbi should take part in gathering the names of all enrolled reviewee's under their roof and have their result separated from those examinees who hosnestly/fairly did their best. i beleive that this idea of mine would cost prc alot (financially) when they would conduct an investigation to accumulate the names of those examinees who had reviewed under them. but i suppose it would be a bigger liability to the prc if we all repeat the exam. in addition, many of the examineers who came from the rural area's who sacrificed themselves to take the examination in manila would not again, be able to afford financially at this point of crisis.

those 2 brown monkey :troll:should be hanged and be stoned to death and be showned live in televisions as a lesson to all. that honesty is the best policy............

I agree with badminton, PRC should be TRANSPARENT. This may come out as a bit harsh to non- Filipinos reading this post, but being in this country since birth, one gets the acquired taste of being a pessimist. I don't have full confidence with NBI. Only with complete transparency and constant vigilance of the Nursing group, one can hope to have justice in this scandal.

...just my thought...

i dont think pinpointing at this time (test taker) by the nbi will work, what if those students who enroll in this review center shared to there frineds who didnt enroll.... so what will happen? so the best thing to do is to retake and have the a new bank of questions again!!!!its really shameful situation

I graduated last year. Most of my friends are now RN's since i finished my BSN up to the present I didnt enrolled myself nor have any friends that reviewed in GAPUZ / PENTAGON / ORACLE / EASTWEST / ETC. I took the exam merely by just doing some self study at home. About your concern, I think, lets just consider those person seeing some leakages from their friends as their BONUS. Beside wheather a Leak or None has been done what is 119 Questions that has been scattered anyway! I believe that if we deserve to pass even there is or no leakage at all. the truth of being prepared and our mental capacity for the so-called licnsure exam will prevail.

I am wishing that since it has been the PRC's Fault, lets just pray that they should consider the TEST 3 of our exam where some of the leak has come out. I believe Test 3 has been a tricky part and even Physicians who took the NLE had dificult time to answer many of the question. Lets just pray that the PRC will remove the passing score 60% of that part since for sure many of those who have in hands the copy of the leakages will result to high raw score pulling down many of average examinees.

Repeating The Exam Wouldnt Solve the Problem..... A big Posibility for another leakage may possibly exist 2nd time around. Taking another exam doesnt give us enough time to study, if the final decision is to take another exam, why not instead wait for DECEMBER BOARD but i bet many are not favorable with that. I suggest rather than taking another exam, let the PRC's STATISTICIAN formulate a good Formula for the computation of our grades in a way that would be favorable to the majority. AMENNNNNNNNNN

the best solution is a retake with a newly created questions...

i think so too. i'd rather retake the exam than let them nullify the results. it is so unfair to everyone who took the test without any leakage. there's no need to review again just like we did before the exam. the knowledge must still be there. if you're afraid that you wont have much time to review again, i wont hesitate to think that you depended on the leakage.

I think the reason why PRC has not revealed the 2 culprits is the fact that admittance of a leakage is already a big blow to their credibility. Giving the 2 BON member identities would cause more clamor, and so PRC went for the middle way, just right to admit and at the same time be to prevent more damage and manage cleanup more discreetly.

I sympathize for the examinees, after that long, long wait... I could imagine the frustration. And even greater frustration should PRC declare a re-take.

At first, I was also skeptical about the news, being aware that this news might just be media hype or propaganda between competing review centers. Since the latest press release of PRC today, the leakage was confirmed. So, to all concerned, let's just pray and hope for the best.

Regarding how this might affect migration, I don't think it will have a significant effect. The NCLEX, for example, is done and facilitated in the U.S., not in the Philippines... so it's safe to say that it's foolproof. And so, I think that the NCSBN would not be so concerned if we have a circus in PRC, just as long as we pass the NCLEX, as long as we pass THEIR standard. Of course, there's the probability that the PRC registration will be questioned during eligibility evaluation, but still, you got your Transcript and other credentials.
