Prairie View A&M students

Published

Hi all,

Is there anyone here starting at Prairie View this Spring or currently attending? I got my acceptance letter about 2 weeks ago....I am so excited...and nervous! Can any PV students give advice on what to expect?

Thanks :)

I'm trying to get in Fall 2011...cuz I have like 3 more classes to take. Your saying the science part isn't alot??? I'm good at math I'm currently taking cal2 at UH. So I'm not really worried about math! I did buy a study guide to study but I'm just really scared lol!! Well I'll study hard I guess!!! I wish u best of luck aswell! I'm really scared cuz this process is unpredictable! I always think what if I don't get in what if I don't do good on the hesi what if this happens what if that happens LOL!! Well I guess everyone has to go thru that phase! How long is the hesi? Like question wise how many questions?? Can we skip questions? And how far do they go on math? Like is it basic math or calculus math??? Thank you so much for answering my questions!!:)

It says on the LVN-BSN application packet that it's taken into consideration if you repeat classes. It says you cannot repeat more than 2 or so. Can you still apply if you had to retake them multiple times? I had to drop out of APII because of an illness. I then took it again but made a C, and this past semester I re-took it to raise it to an A. Will they still accept it, or since you can't repeat them so many times will they not consider my application? I guess I'm confused as to what they mean exactly. Thanks for any help.

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know how much of a stickler PV is about some the courses they list that must have been taken within the last 10 years.....like sociology, basic psych. None of the other schools require that, they just want your sciences within the last 5 years. Any advice is much appreciated.

hello everyone! im a sophmore pre nursing student at PV and am gonna apply for clinical this fall, 2010 in order to attend in spring of 2011. I have all my application, letter of reccs and essay done, and am just waiting to recieve my last letter from my previous advisor.

i took the hesi test, and it was easy, definitely study with the study guide and MEMORIZE your conversions for math for ex. liters, gallons, pints, ounces. I know these questions came up AlOT, at least on my test. An we only need to take 4 sections (grammar, reading comprehension, anatomy and physiology, and math) and the critical thinking section, which will not be scored.

also, ur SUPPOSe to take the hesi AFTER you have submitted you clinicals application and they (the nursing advisors) give you the "go ahead" to take it, thats what ms ******** and ****** told me. I took it before because as you can probably understand they tend to not make things abundently clear from the get go. However if you, like me, to it too early then they should still accept it cause mrs ****** said that i dont have to take it again since i passed the test.

also, how is everybody doing? hung? jazzynurse? id love for some insider information from those who are or have been through clinicals. things like tuition or cheap places to get needed items, things that uve picked up on on the way to graduation :)

in reference to the letter of recommendations, where exactly did you find the letter or recommendation form and how many are required..thats been confusing me..and also, you are saying its ok to take the HESI before you submit your application. I take my HESI on the 18th but I havent yet gotten my letters of rec

thanks!

It shows that 3 letters of reccomendation are required but i asked mrs T and she said 2 would be fine if you cant find someone to write the third letter. As far as i know there is no specific form that they need to fill out, but i would reccomend they print it out on a letter head, cause it looks more formal. for example, all of my reccs came from teachers or advisors at PV so they printed it out/or typed it up idk, on a PV letterhead.

And yes they SHOULD still accept your hesi score, if you passed and took the subjects that they are grading, and the critical thinking section. im kinda waiting on them to let the shoe drop an say that i have to retake it, seeing that i took it early but thats jus me being pessimistic.

Oh ok..and also, can we get letters of recommendation from anyone. I was going to get a letter of recommendation from my A&P teacher, the business owner of the home health i worked at as well as a letter of rec from the supervisor of the hostel that I volunteered at. Would that be suffiecient or do they only want letters of recommendations from professors/advisors?

thansk for your response!

it shouldnt matter who you get to write the letter. usually no one personal though

I got an provisional acceptance letter and I have turned in all the required documents last week. Do anyone know when the decision of acceptance letters are final and sent out.

Hey nichole85! theres a thread for pv spring 2011 in the pre nursing forum. cant miss it. and im not sure, but if youve sent in ur packet then ur good, u wont be un- accepted or denied admittance.
