Is there anyone here starting at Prairie View this Spring or currently attending? I got my acceptance letter about 2 weeks ago....I am so excited...and nervous! Can any PV students give advice on what to expect?
Thanks :)

I was just wondering...What all did you have to do to get accepted. I'm REALLY interested in PV School of Nursing...
You can go to the website www.pvamu.edu and check out the class reqs. I had to take the NET test. They have a schedule of when they offer the test at the school. We are going to be in our new building this Spring so that will be nice. I really like PV. I was skeptical at first, but now I am glad I went there. Good luck! Let me know if you have anymore questions:)

i have some friends that go to twu, and from what i hear it's quite different from my school. my program is 5 semesters, instead of 4 like twu, that's why we have less credit hours per semester. i like the layout because all of our classes are not crammed together. easy is not a word i would use to describe anything about my program.:)

I am very interested in applying to the PV nursing program. I'm wondering what GPA did you guys get when you got accepted? My mom is an assist. head nurse and talked to one of the instructors there. She said it is possible to get in with a 3.2 and probably with other factors (NET). I am getting really nervous b/c application time is here.
I would definitely encourage you to apply. My GPA was 3.4, but I know people that had 3's or so and got in. They look at NET score and GPA. I think another advantage for applicants is that we have Fall and Spring admission, that way you don't have to wait as long to get admitted. When are you applying? Let us know how it goes. :)

So glad to finally find a thread about PV. I've applied for admission for Fall '06, ended up on "a waiting list for possible Fall 2006 admission" which didn't come thru by the date they said I would know something. I'm on priority admission list for Spring though, I'm just sooo anxious to get started. I can't wait till January, I'm already pricing scrubs, shoes, and stethoscope. Are there any current students out there that can give me any tips on what to expect in Jan or tell me what skills I should refresh myself on, and also is a PDA provided/required/allowed? Considering upgrading to a PDA phone but I don't want to waste my money if I cant use it or one is provided

Howdy from College Station, just a tad N. of you.
I wouldn't buy much of ANYTHING until after school starts or you hear about official requirements from the program. First, you aren't likely to need scrubs as you'll probably have to buy a prescribed uniform. And I wouldn't take the advice of current students about PDAs, etc. - those requirements might change in future (your) classes.
As far as stethescopes: I bought cheap while in nursing school. First, I had to learn to REALLY listen with those cheap scopes, which made using expensive ones later a breeze. More important: they get lost and/or stolen easily. And the rule is: the more expensive the scope, the easier to get lost/stolen.
As far as skills or tips: generally, those are taught in school and there is no real need to brush up in advance. If it were ME, I'd brush up on my recreational reading because THAT is something you won't have time for during school. If you are just excited to get started, pick up a basic nursing book or two from the local bookstore. Or, volunteer at a local hospital and observe how the health care team works up close.
Good luck.

Ive checked out all of the programs in the Houston area as well and PV is the one program that my heart leaps at (ask me why? I dont know, its just one of those things "I just know") I am applying in the spring for the Fall of 2007 and then I will keep applying until I get accepted to a BSN program. Does anyone have any information about the information sessions for PV? I have called multiple times to the campus and I always get a voicemail and I leave a message and its never returned. Any advice would be appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

To anyone attending PV nursing school, I just graduated from there. Let me say that you must have patience if you plan to attend this nursing school. It was hell the whole time. Befriend the students ahead of you in the program, they will be your life savers. And do not be afraid to go to your professors offices and talk with them. It will help you in the end. Prairie View is a good school, but with many flaws. It will take determination, concentration, and patience to complete their program. And they also have a HESI exit exam that is mandatory to graduate in the final semester. You must score a 900.
If anyone has any other questions about this program, do not hesitate to ask as I am VERY familiar with both the main campus and the nursing school.
