Any January 2015 Practical Nursing hopefuls out there?
I applied to Sheridan, George Brown, Centennial, Conestoga and Mohawk. I was just wondering if anyone is familiar with the HOAE testing, this might be a silly question but can you register for the test only after they have offered you to take it?
The nerves of waiting are getting to me, three to four more months!
@philvane You're attending the same program as me, MoMac January 2015! See you in January, it's coming up fast! I still have to have my doctor sign some placement forms and get my CPR HCP and first aid :S
Hooray! Yeah time is flying by. I haven't started all the placement stuff, I have no idea when I'll find time since I work full time during crappy hours. I can't believe how much there is to do.
Oh, do you know if we have to do CPR level HCP or Standard First Aid with CPR HCP? Lol. There are so many things on Mococotion, I don't understand. I emailed pre-placement services last wk but haven't gotten a response yet (seems to be a trend with mohawk, hmm). I was hoping to do the CPR stuff this weekend but it's probably too late. Heck I might already be qualified (I did CPR HCP for my university degree) but I can't find my card
CPR is only good for one year, you will need to do it every year to maintain it :)
Yea, I read that afterwards having done further digging on mohawk website.
I wonder if the rule was different before, I swear my old card was good for a few years. Either way, I wouldn't mind doing it again, it's been a long time

First aid is generally good for three years, that may be what you are thinking of. I've never known CPR to be good for more than one year (atleast not HCP level) but I've only done it for 5 years though, so it could have been different.
Just a heads up! I JUST booked my CPR level HCP with the Red Cross in Burlington! I do it November 12th, It cost me ONLY $45 and it is good for THREE years! My advice is to do it there because frankly that is the cheapest price I've found and the longest certificate valid period.
I know most places it only lasts for one year! When I asked her to repeat it again she laughed at me....I won't question it!

Hey all future nurses!
This forum have seriously helped me so much to clear any doubts and wuestions I have all realted to getting in to the the Practical Nursing program. Let me share abut of my story. I did the pre health science program at George Brown (that was 8 months long) and absolutely did horrible because I didnt concentrate. I did have some courses needed that I passed but not something I am proud of. I should have realized sooner that it was a waste of time because I could have just upgraded courses at a Adult Learning School (which is what I did). I upgraded all the prerequisites such as English, Math, and Chemistry and end up with all 90's because I was cery determined this time. I did'tvdo my Biology because I have done it in college and finished with a B+(since if you did a course in college they add 10 points on top of that) so that turned out to be an A which is all I needed. I applied to all schools I am interested in but Conestoga was my first choice because me and my bf moved in kitchener. I received a letter requesting to write the HOAE test which i prepared for (which was seriously hard and very broad). I suggest for anyone doing it to go to the library and ask for help because they had this ebook (which was super handy) that was intended to help anyone for the HOAE. It's sad to say the test was so much harder than that ebook but I learned alot that I was able to apply. Long story short I applied for september and january. I receieved my results and got a 69 %percent which was just a little bit above than the mark they require for students to be considered. At that point I already lost hope in getting a acceptance. The wait will kill you ( I know this by experience) and Im sure everyone is as well. I was in the waiting list for january and was the 33rd person and I knew there is no way I am getting in. They said they will be sending out acceptance letters for January intakes by October and sure enough I did halfway through the month. I was super excited, I even cried because it is a very competitive program and being able to be chosen is an achievement on its own. My advice to anyone applying is never lose hope and pray. Never doubt yourself because with hope, nothing is impossible! I cant wait to meet some of you! lets all help each other to reach our dreams and become the future nurses that we are :)))
