Any January 2015 Practical Nursing hopefuls out there?
I applied to Sheridan, George Brown, Centennial, Conestoga and Mohawk. I was just wondering if anyone is familiar with the HOAE testing, this might be a silly question but can you register for the test only after they have offered you to take it?
The nerves of waiting are getting to me, three to four more months!
I took all University level courses. 94% in Biology, 89% in Chemistry, 84% or 87% in English (can't remember) and 93% in Math. I was told Mohawk did not add 10% for University level courses, only Conestoga did...? Oh well! The HOAE isn't something you can really study for. You either know it or you don't. Thats how I feel though! I'm sure you'll do well, dont worry! :)
Just a heads up! I JUST booked my CPR level HCP with the Red Cross in Burlington! I do it November 12th, It cost me ONLY $45 and it is good for THREE years! My advice is to do it there because frankly that is the cheapest price I've found and the longest certificate valid period.I know most places it only lasts for one year! When I asked her to repeat it again she laughed at me....I won't question it!
You need to ensure that your CPR course is recognized by the facilities that you will be working in.
Here in AB, St. John's isn't accepted. It has to be Heart & Stroke BCLS. Only good for a year. Employed staff get a paid recert day each year.
In school, we had the option of doing it on a Saturday for a small fee.
Are you referring to the assessment for success?
Assuming you are referring to my acceptance average, I had a 90% (combined prereqs and HOAE).
FYI, Mohawk accepts St. Johns Ambulance for the CPR component.

My high school average was way lower, it was around the early 70s. However I took all "U" courses and also got a BA, although my average sucked again (C+). Maybe these improved my chances of admission, I don't know. If you do well on the HOAE you should be fine. When you book your HOAE your college will send you links to sample HOAE questions (which I assume you are referring to), however you can't really study for it as it's just random skill testing questions regarding science, logic, spelling and comprehension. If you're fresh out of secondary or post secondary education I can't see how it could be difficult at all especially seeing your science grades. I was out of education for four years and did well, I can't remember my results but it was somewhere in the 80s.
I hope that helps.
