Powerpoints or Book?

Do you think memorizing the powerpoints would be enough to do well on the exams, or do you think the instructor will also use info from the textbook?

    That is a question for your instructor. We have no way of knowing how your professor creates tests.

    Memorization only works for specific "pieces" of information. It won't help you learn concepts - how all those pieces fit together - or support critical thinking & develop your clinical reasoning skills. As an educator, I use PowerPoints as a framework or outline for a lesson. Those bullet points certainly do not contain all of the information that students need to understand.

    I completely agree. Work on understanding concepts. Be able to explain them to yourself and maybe someone else.

    As far as PowerPoints are concerned, you'd have to ask your instructor. My AP professor provides us with PowerPoints to use as a study guide on things we really need to grasp. I still read my textbook to study.

    Rote memorization will not get you through nursing school- it's a whole new ballpark where spitting out memorized facts isn't going to create a passing grade. You need to be able to apply the information you learn. Most test questions are going to be written at levels far above the basic memorization level. Take a look at Bloom's taxonomy, and be prepared to deal with the higher levels. When I was a student, anything that was assigned was fair game for tests, whether it was lecture, textbooks, PowerPoints, journal articles, or anything else.
