2 potential jobs!!!

Published

OKay,

so many of you know my story from previous posts!

Good news!!!

I have 2 potential jobs for locums tenens!!! What i wanted!!!

One is for a 3-6 month contract in their outpatient clinic. You will be working Family Practice/Primary Care/Urgent Care, in Leesville, LA., starting ASAP. 8-4:30pm 40hrs week up to 50hrs if wanted.

The other is in Amherst, North of Springfield, MA. Student Health Urgent Care position starting around 1/12 through May. It's a night shift, starting 10pm and ending 8am. Alternating 4 shifts one week, 3 shifts the next MA license can be obtained quickly.

Anything i should be particular and ask during the phone interview?

I'm not sure the one the in LA even wants an interview (i think they are desperate b/c the recruiter pretty much said they offered me the job, but i let her know i would like to speak to whoever is hiring) The one in LA is also at a military base.

I've never lived on the East coast, and that kind of excites me! I also like the fact that also that pos is night shift it is 3 or 4 days/week!! I really don't want to work 5 days/week...I think i just need to make sure i at least have a MD by phone back up since i am a new graduate. I LOVE the thought of working urgent care though, I really am not all that gung ho excited about chronic disease and primary care. (probably one reason i love Peds so much!)

Any tips about what i should def. ask during the interview would be helpful.

I don't think salary is an issue, i think both jobs are ~40/hr and they pay housing and travel.

oh and either job is really looking for longer term, so if i want to stay that would probably be an option, but i like the fact that i won't be tied down, and have options to explore new places!

And if anyone has lived in either one of these areas please let me know the good/bad etc

Zenman, can I assume you were in the military at Fort Polk? Leesville is definitely not the best place to be.

You assume correctly...

We have a night differential of around $150 for nights (so around $12.50 per hour). On the other hand those are for 36hr positions (pays 90% of full time).

I would try to find out a little more about the patient load. I do part time ER work at night and most of the time its 20 or so patients from 7-12p then 1-2 the rest of the night. Do you have boarders or whatever colleges are calling them these days? Back in my first college go around our student health center had a few beds where we would keep students with bad flu/gastroenteritis overnight to watch. Not sure if this is even legal anymore. If thats the case then thats where your RN will be most of the night. Overall it sounds like a cool idea. The paid place is nice since I understand Amherst is really expensive.

David Carpenter, PA-C

Thanks David,

Sounds like what the head MD told me, said usually pretty busy till midnight then slows down. He also said there was a room to watch people, give IV fluids, etc..

Its sounds really exciting, and hopefully cases aren't as bad as regular ER.

I just hope my schooling has prepared me well enough, and that I can at least figure the answer out with resources, which i would be using most of the time anyways, since i haven't done any primary care type work since i graduated.

This pos. as well is only 70hr/per pay period.

I REALLY like the fact of NOT working 5 days/week though, even if it means working night shift!

Have you worked nights before? I know some people are great with them, some get sick. I learned it was really different to have to be up all night and work (as an RN) as opposed to hanging out with friends or lying on the couch reading. If you can bunch your shifts together it really helps.

yeah, i've worked nights, i'm okay with it. Not my favorite, but thankfully i don't have problems sleeping day or night. plus it would only be for 5 months.

And 10hr shift will be nicer than 12hr.

Provigil is my friend!:D

This job has you doing fri, sat, sun then wed thurs then mon tues alternating between the 2 NPs.

I would rather just work 3 or 4 days in a row, but guess it depends what the other NP wants as well. He said usually it has worked out if you need certain days off to switch with the other person.

Specializes in primary care, pediatrics, OB/GYN, NICU.

That's so exciting! What company are you working with? If for some reason my new offer falls through I'm going to consider Locum Tenens (always good to have a plan B!)

Specializes in ACNP-BC.

How neat you are looking at Amherst, MA. I am very familiar with the area. I live in Worcester, MA and my sister went to UMASS Amherst-that is such a nice area to live. It is just very pretty, scenic, lots of little shops and coffee houses, cafes, old book shops...I loved visiting her there when she was in school! And Northampton is a neighboring town-another nice place to visit. Good luck with your decision! :)

So i accepted the Position in MA. Seems like it should be pretty cool, and I would love to learn how to do procedures like casting/splinting/suturing etc better!

its nights and every other weekend but that's cool, Jan-May.

Good pay and they pay/provide for housing/utilities and even give a stipend for cable/internet.

i'm excited!!!

any tips for the area are appreciated!!
