Post Masters FNP versus DNP or PhD program

Hi - I am graduating with MSN Administration in 4 weeks and am considering a post masters FNP program. The Dean at my school suggested a DNP or PhD program instead. Does anyone know of any dual FNP/DNP post masters programs? Would I be better off doing the DNP or PhD as she suggested or just concentrate on the post masters FNP? I am 52 years old so not a lot of time to recoup all the expenses of tuition in my lifetime :) Thanks

I am close to your age (50) and doing the MSN with ANP. I have no interest in the doctoral degree at this point. I may even do a post masters Psych program. At my school they are pushing the DNP but I do not have an interest in it. I suppose one could do it if they plan on teaching. I expect the DNP to be required to teach the new NP's of the future. It is just so much $$. If I were younger and wanted all the school, I would be off to med school!

Thanks.....I wish I would have gone the route you are going (MSN and ANP) but at first thought I would complete the MSN in Administration and then see if I had enough "energy" to do the NP program. I am leaning toward the NP program so your comments were very welcomed. Thanks.

I am 5-max of 10 yrs from retirement. Hopefully, I am 5 yrs from retirement or scaling down to 2 days/wk.

I am not interested in a doctoral degree.

My work is almost all clinical hands on...I honestly don't see what

more education would do for me at this point in my career.

If that is the expected entry point, I can honestly say that I would recommend med school!

University of Missouri has a post masters DNP/FNP track which is intended for nurses who have not completed a nurse practitioner program.
